Specialist, Space Planning

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Specialist, Space Planning to join our dynamic Enterprise facilities team in our Finance and Corporate Services (FCS) division.

The Enterprise Facilities team leads strategic and capital planning, aligning real estate with business goals and overseeing facilities for efficiency, compliance, and risk management.

As a Specialist, Space Planning, you will support workplace planning, space allocation and office changes across multiple locations. You will combine accurate space data, practical planning and strong coordination to help create safe, accessible and efficient workplaces. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys solving space-related challenges, collaborating with diverse partners and guiding employees through workplace changes.

Formula for success

• Using your knowledge of space management systems, you will maintain reliable floor plans, occupancy records and space inventories that support informed planning decisions.


• Drawing on your workplace planning expertise, you will coordinate workstation assignments, employee moves and office reconfigurations while minimizing operational disruption.


• You will analyze occupancy, capacity and utilization information to identify practical opportunities for improved space use, workplace functionality and employee experience.


• Through effective project coordination, you will work with facilities teams, project partners, consultants and vendors to support renovations, furniture installations and workplace modernization initiatives.


• Applying strong change management and communication skills, you will help employees and stakeholders understand space changes, workplace standards and move processes, contributing to smooth transitions.


• With a focus on accessibility, safety and compliance, you will help ensure spaces are ready for occupancy and aligned with workplace standards, building codes and applicable requirements. 

Desired education and skills

• A post-secondary diploma or degree in facilities management, interior design, architecture, space planning, business administration or a related field.


• Relevant experience supporting space management, workplace planning, facilities operations, office moves or corporate real estate activities, ideally within a complex organization.


• Effective communication, collaboration, organization, project coordination and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities and travel frequently to support projects across multiple locations.


• Knowledge of workplace planning principles, occupancy management, space utilization, accessibility requirements and move coordination practices.


• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records, interpret space data and recommend practical solutions.


• Experience using space management or workplace technology platforms, floor plans, occupancy databases or bookable workspace systems. Experience with AutoCAD, SAP or facilities management tools is an asset.


• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

What you can expect

• This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.


• You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.


• You may be expected to travel monthly, and as required.
