Job Description - STA FM Control Officer

FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader and challenger markets, with an additional presence in all the major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

Your role

We have a great opportunity to join the FM NFR & Control Pillar during a STA as Financial Markets Control Officer. This is a Financial Markets Business Control role within the Financial Markets Front Office. As a key member of the FM NFR & Control Pillar, your responsibility is to support the team in actively managing the supporting risk management activities which are key in determining our risk profile and managing our NFR KPI’s. On the team, you will be exposed to and work with different colleagues from the Financial Markets Front Office whilst aligning with stakeholders in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lod roles. At the same time, the FM NFR team plays a key role in further optimizing our processes for regulatory readiness, operational effectiveness and key control optimization. The Junior FM Control reports to the Global FM Chief Control Officer.

Your responsibilities

The FM NFR & Control Pillar is driving adequate (non-financial) risk management and control accountability for the front office. In addition, we are responsible for setting non-financial risk standards within the FO and maintains conduct oversight. FM NFR & Control is a global function and is steered through senior global and regional FM management. You will work in a team that consists of experienced professionals with a strong interest in Financial Markets and their impact on banking. You will be based in Amsterdam, but you are responsible for ING FM globally. You will contribute to the growing footprint of ING in both Wholesale Banking and the online banking sector. The specific responsibilities during your STA will include assisting and supporting the FM NFR team with the management of all facets of the Non-Financial Risk Management for the Financial Markets Front Office organization, including but not limited to:

  • Monthly reporting  and processing of Non-Financial Risk events and issues in dedicated systems;
  • Maintaining Data quality in iRisk in line with applicable standards;
  • Monitoring and follow up of NFR and compliance related e-learnings and training;
  • NFR related Awareness and newsletters;
  • Reporting on all needed facets of Non-Financial Risk;
  • Handling information requests in relation Compliance Quality assessments, Non Financial Risk Deep Dives and other as needed;
  • Supporting activities for Key Control Identification, Monitoring and Evaluation;
  • Execution of generic NFR Frameworks applicable to Financial Markets;
  • Provide guidance to the Global FM organization;
  • Supporting activities in the preparation or minuting of FM NFR related meetings and steerco’s.
  • Set up, maintain and track progress of plannings related to both own deliverables and team deliverables.

You are expected to build a culture of operational excellence by:

  • Pro-actively staying up-to-date on organizational operating policies and procedures (i.e. Risk, Legal, etc.) to ensure appropriate protocols are implemented and followed, and by facilitating accordingly;
  • Actively promoting a sound Risk Culture  within Financial Markets and encouraging others to do so as well;
  • Supporting the implementation of initiatives and transformation projects in order to improve our control environment.

As a Financial Markets Control Officer, you also need:

Qualifications / Education

  • A degree with a major in business/economics, accountancy or other relevant business discipline.

  • Organized and diligent with an ability to deal with multiple competing priorities at the same time and be able to prioritize;

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional demeanor.

Technical Skills and track Record

  • 3-6 years experience in Banking, of which 3 years in a non-financial risk context (1st  / 2nd / 3rd line of defense) preferred;
  • Identifies, assesses, prioritizes managing risks and provides guidance when required;
  • Previous exposure to the ING policies, reporting and data quality a bonus;
  • Background in the Financial Markets environment function preferred;
  • Ability to use clear, concise and effective verbal / written communications skills without supervision and can provide technical guidance when required;
  • Ability to advise and support when required on NFR related matters by expressing ideas, requesting actions and formulating plans or policies;
  • Previous experience within Wholesale Bank domain is an advantage;
  • Very good working knowledge of all Microsoft tooling – outlook, excel, word, PowerPoint, teams etc.;
  • Excellent English and Dutch skills (written and spoken).
