Job Description

As a Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the development of innovative Oral Healthcare products by translating user and business needs into system requirements and supporting the realization of robust, compliant and high-performing system solutions.

You will play a key role in system definition, integration, and verification, working in a multidisciplinary team to ensure that products meet performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.

You will also actively contribute in a hands-on manner during development, supporting integration and validation of system solutions in lab and prototype environments.

You are responsible for:

System definition & requirements

  • Translating business and user needs into clear, structured system requirements

  • Supporting system decomposition and defining interfaces between mechanical, electrical and embedded subsystems

  • Ensuring requirements are complete, consistent, and testable (“design for test”)

Verification & validation (V&V)

  • Contributing to the development of system verification strategy and test concepts

  • Reviewing and assessing verification results to ensure compliance with requirements

  • Supporting definition of test methods, protocols, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with test engineers

System integration & realization

  • Supporting integration of subsystems and identifying system-level issues

  • Actively contributing in hands-on integration, bring-up, and debugging activities in lab and prototype environments

  • Performing and supporting measurements, experiments, and data analysis to evaluate system behavior

  • Analyzing system behavior and contributing to root cause analysis and issue resolution

  • Collaborating with discipline teams to ensure proper system performance during development

Risk & compliance

  • Identifying and mitigating technical risks using structured methods such as FMEA and risk assessments

  • Supporting compliance with Philips QMS, safety, and regulatory requirements

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Acting as a linking pin between disciplines (mechanical, electronics, software, test)

  • Communicating system status, technical risks, and V-model maturity to stakeholders

You are a part of:

A cross-functional Philips Oral Healthcare R&D team in Drachten, part of the global Innovation & Development organization.

You will work closely with Systems Engineering, Test & Verification, Hardware, Firmware, and Program Management teams, contributing to both New Product Development and Lifecycle Management activities.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or Systems Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience in product development (preferably in a regulated environment)

  • Basic understanding of systems engineering practices, including:

    • Requirements engineering

    • Interface management

    • System integration

  • Hands-on affinity and experience working in lab, prototype, or test environments

  • Familiarity with verification & validation (V&V) concepts and test methodologies

  • Experience with risk management and FMEA

  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
