Job Description

Boskalis is currently looking for a student to start (Medio 2025) their graduation project with us.

Marine Analyses Department

Boskalis Marine Engineers assist multidisciplinary engineering teams. These engineering teams are responsible for the complete engineering of complex projects from the concept design all the way to the supervision and assistance of the actual execution phase. The Marine engineering colleagues will commence (project specific): Vessel Motion Analysis, Station Keeping Analysis (Anchor Moorings and/or DP), Cable/Pipeline installation Analyses, Offshore Lifting Analyses, sea fastening calculations, stability calculations and many more. In addition to actual calculation assignments, Marine Engineers are assisting on producing procedures as Towing manuals, Lifting procedures and Installation TaskPlans and many more.

The knowledge on ocean environment, behavior of floating structures, machinery and (lifting) equipment is of vital importance for the understanding of offshore operations. Therefore, Marine Engineering expertise is of great importance for the success of any project.

In this research you will

  • Work with other (Marine) engineers and meet with multi-disciplinary operational engineers to understand the challenge.
  • Conduct literature research on the topic of interest and familiarize with dedicated simulation software.
  • Formulate the problem in a simulation / mathematical model.
  • Report your final findings, demonstrating your modelling / design choices and reproducibility of results.

There is no clearly defined topic, but feel free to apply for a graduation thesis at our department, and discuss with us what your interest are, what drives you and where those interests can be a benefit for Boskalis. In joint cooperation we will work out a tailor-made assignment.

Your qualities

  • You are doing a Highschool Bachelor or University master’s study in Marine Engineering, Shipbuilding, Naval Architecture, or other related field;
  • Affinity with Python and simulation software;
  • Theoretical understanding of Vessel Morions / Mooring Systems and offshore operations;
  • It is preferred to be working at our office in Papendrecht 4 days a week.

Qualifications

  • Receive supervision and support from Marine Engineering professionals from various Boskalis departments.
  • Gain access to necessary data , simulation models and vessel information.
  • Low threshold to plan meetings with people to gain a better understanding.
  • Utilize well-established development facilities (Python, source code control, packaging).
  • Access to all Marine related Boskalis available Software: Orcaflex , AQWA, Orcawave, Matlab, Optimoor.
