At BASF | Nunhems, we create innovative seed varieties and smart solutions for tomorrow’s needs. To further develop and grow this ambition we are looking for a Internship Supply Chain - Seasonality & Forecasting - BASF | Nunhems - Haelen/Nunhem.
Your Job
How can historical data help us make better forecasting and supply chain decisions? During this internship, you will work on improving the way we translate annual demand forecasts into reliable monthly plans.
Your goal is to develop and test a renewed seasonality concept for our tactical forecasting horizon. By combining data analysis with input from different stakeholders, you will explore which forecasting approach works best and translate your findings into a practical recommendation for the future.
In this role, you will:
- Map the current forecasting process and understand how seasonality is determined today.
- Identify where the current approach creates challenges and assess the impact on forecast accuracy, supply planning, budgeting and inventory.
- Analyse historical sales and forecast data to identify seasonal patterns, differences between crops, volatility and exceptions.
- Explore different planning levels to determine where seasonal patterns are most reliable.
- Develop a clear dashboard that makes seasonal patterns and insights visible and understandable.
- Develop and compare different forecasting approaches, including historical averages, weighted models, dynamic aggregation and time-series methods.
- Test these approaches using historical data and compare their performance based on forecast accuracy, bias and other relevant measures.
- Translate your findings into a practical recommendation for a future seasonality model and a high-level implementation design for SAP IBP.
By the end of your internship, you will have developed a fact-based recommendation that can contribute to better forecasting and supply chain decision-making.
Your Team
You will work in an international supply chain environment where data, commercial insights and operational expertise come together.
Throughout your internship, you will collaborate with colleagues from Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Marketing and country sales teams. You will interview stakeholders to understand their needs, challenge existing ways of working and test whether your proposed solutions work in practice.
You will have room to take ownership of your assignment, investigate different approaches and bring in your own ideas. At the same time, you can rely on the knowledge and experience of colleagues across the organization to help turn your analysis into a practical solution.
