Distribution System State Estimation (DSSE) is a key tool which combines real measurements, pseudo- measurements and network models to estimate the grid state. However, conventional WLS-based DSSE is affected by limited measurement availability, uncertainty in pseudo-measurements and the choice of measurement weights. Moreover, WLS minimizes a global weighted squared-residual objective and this objective is not explicitly designed to prioritize the accuracy of peak magnitude or duration. Therefore, good overall state-estimation performance does not necessarily guarantee accurate representation of peak events.
Furthermore, peak load studies also motivate treating maximum loading as an extreme value problem. This motivates investigating whether measurements, state-estimation results and temporal information can be combined in a peak aware reconstruction approach to obtain more reliable estimates of peak magnitude and duration.
