Job Description - Two positions: One Research and One Advocacy Intern

Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Research, Expertise and Influencing (REI) team is looking for one Research and one Advocacy Intern. 



Are you a student with interest in either Research or Advocacy, who would be excited to use these skills to promote children’s safety and rights? Would you like to learn new skills, while contributing to our work to stop child exploitation? Become an intern in the Research, Expertise and Influencing Team of Terre des Hommes Netherlands!



About Terre des Hommes


Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation. And by empowering children to make their voices count. the work of Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on (Online) Sexual Exploitation of Children, Child Labour and Humanitarian Action. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia, Africa and Europe. We are hiring for two interns. Join us!



What will you work on:



The primary objective of these internship positions is to assist Terre des Hommes Netherlands in preparing and disseminating expertise on child exploitation, both internally and externally This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about the complexities of child protection issues;  contributing to ongoing research and advocacy initiatives of the organisation



The interns will be part of the Research, Expertise and Influencing team. This person will receive practical hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment, offering exposure to diverse tasks within the realm of child protection.



Key responsibilities:


The intern(s) will get the opportunity to learn research and advocacy skills, which might include the following tasks:



  • Collection and analysis of data related to children's rights and the prevention of child exploitation;

  • Contribute to writing and preparing reports, policy briefs and advocacy knowledge products, where you’ll need to translate complex information into digestible formats. Ability to use Canva would be a plus;

  • Engage with different regional teams (East Africa, Asia and Europe) while working on research and advocacy initiatives. Have the chance to deep dive into a topic that interests you, from our research and influencing portfolios, and write content for our website or briefs to share internally;

  • Participate in team meetings, workshops and training sessions.


We are looking for a motivated and hands-on intern, who:



  • Is currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., social and behavioural sciences, social work, public policy, international law, child rights, etc.).

  • Demonstrable experience with either research or influencing activities;

  • Has good oral and written communication skills in English ((proficiency in a second language e.g., Dutch, French, or a language of one of TdH NL countries of operation) is also a plus!);

  • Is sensitive to cultural diversity and has a commitment to ethical practice.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of child protection issues. 

  • Ability to plan and organise well, setting goals and achieving results in line with the goals set. 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond flexibly to changing priorities. 

  • Innovative thinker with a talent for developing creative communication solutions.

  • Skilled in establishing priorities, planning, coordinating, and monitoring work effectively.

  • Fast learner with a keen ability to follow instructions and adhere to organisational policies.
