You are  a certificated, Elementary School Music Teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, preferably also a Masters in a relevant area. With at least five years of Elementary School experience in an American, Canadian, or international school, you are familiar with current U.S. educational practices including curriculum integration, authentic assessment, and inclusion strategies for ESL and students with learning differences are all familiar territory for you.

The Role : The role is supervised by the Elementary School Principal. Our Elementary School consists of 281 students. As part of the 60 strong Elementary School faculty, you will be working with over 100 Grade 3 and Grade 4 students in our Upper Elementary School. You’ll have the chance to work alongside a dedicated team of teachers and specialists to help enhance the teaching and learning experience of these young students.

The Work : As an Elementary School Music Teacher, your daily activities will consist of planning and teaching music classes using current, effective and engaging practices and methodologies including various elements of music and movement. In collaboration with the ECC music teacher, you implement a dynamic music curriculum using the NCAS standards for 3rd and 4th Grade students as well as a strong choir program for 3rd and 4th graders based upon current research and best practice. You will assist in leading performances in divisional assemblies, Spring Concert, and other performing opportunities as needed. You create meaningful learning experiences that help all students connect and understand the subject matter based on their abilities, attitudes, effort, culture, and achievement in an inclusive classroom environment.
In addition, you align instruction with the curricular goals of the ES music curriculum and NCAS standards. World Music, Orff-Schulwerk, and recorders are integral parts of the elementary curriculum. You will use instruments (non-pitched and barred) and movement to help students learn musical concepts. You coordinate with classroom and specialist teachers on interdisciplinary projects and performances. You deliver excellent communication with parents to provide and explain information regarding students’ progress as well as highlighting program goals, achievements and successes. You provide division level and school wide communications regarding ECC/UE music. Furthermore, you assist in the development of the ECC/UE music budget recommendation to school administration. You participate in school-wide, departmental, divisional, and grade level meetings and duties. You will participate fully and cooperatively in a professional learning community in alignment with the ASH Educator Competencies. You perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Elementary School Principal.

Strong, open communications are your hallmark. Regular communications with parents is essential as you provide and explain information regarding students’ social, academic, and behavioral progress. Your voice matters in the conversation as to how we can all best serve the needs of our students. If you have talents or interests outside of school in the areas of music, athletics, the arts or other such interests, bring them with you as you’ll be participating in after school activities in support of our students. You will be fully involved in daily life at ASH. Your “can do” attitude will be essential for your success in your daily school life.
