Department: Energy and Project Finance Practice Group
Reports to: Partners and Managing Associate
Direct reports: Senior Counsel, Associate Counsel, and Associate Trainee
Year(s) of experience: 7 to 10 years post call experience in commercial practice

Provides support to the Partners and Managing Associates on legal matters. Acts as team lead and supervises tasks assigned to junior lawyers.

Duties and responsibilities 

• The provision of high quality targeted and accessible legal advice across a range of practice areas, including energy and finance.
• Providing commercially sound legal advice and direction to clients
• Liaise with relevant regulators and government agencies on behalf of clients
• Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy on complex legal matters
• To work as a valued team player with colleagues across Dentons ACAS-Law to secure and deliver effective solutions to the legal issues of diverse clients
• Lead, negotiate, conclude, and deliver highly complex, commercially-sound, legally acceptable and profitable agreements
• Lead and manage own portfolio of matters whilst working collegiately with colleagues across Dentons ACAS-Law to support cross-working on legal matters across the Firm
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the practice and procedures of Dentons ACAS-Law
• Driving the delivery of business and continuous improvements for own areas of responsibility
• Ability to manage individuals or teams through line management and/or matrix management arrangements

Required skills

• A sound knowledge and understanding of Nigerian commercial laws and practice, including a good understanding of petroleum industry laws and practice
• Good knowledge of regulatory laws
• Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
• Experience in developing and modifying contract templates customized to meet specific needs and requirements of the business needs of our diverse clients, while incorporating experience-informed negotiating positions
• Proven experience in working in a fast-paced legal environment and strong record of working on all manner of commercial contracts
• Must be pragmatic, solutions driven, self-motivated, capable of working independently with drive and enthusiasm, and being part of a team
• Must be passionate about innovation and creativity
• Must possess strong communication and analytical skills in building a case for change and possess the ability to communicate complex matters to the management
• Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance
• Positive attitude and forward thinking; Attention to detail and delivery of high-quality service
• Excellent interpersonal skills, an inquisitive mind, and the ability to work effectively with multiple, diverse, cross-functional stakeholders
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
