Heifer International Nigeria is implementing a signature program - Naija Unlock – which seeks to collaborate with local value chain actors and smallholder farmers (SHFs) to unlock the country’s potential for food sufficiency and meet local demand while closing the living income gap for 1,000,000 households in selected value chains by 2025. This will lay the foundation for scaling up the impact to a cumulative figure of 2,000,000 households by 2030. the program will achieve this vision by facilitating collaboration with private sector firms in resolving constraints that smallholder farmers are currently experiencing in target value chains. Naija Unlock targets five value chains (rice, tomato and poultry as primary value chains, while cattle and small ruminants (. goats and sheep) are the secondary value chains.FunctionThe Driver is responsible for ensuring smooth operations and field logistics for project activities by providing reliable and courteous service to Heifer International employees & Project staff and stakeholders. S/he is to deliver people and equipment on instruction. The driver, in conjunction with administrative staff, will be responsible for ensuring that all required permits and insurance are kept current by alerting the appropriate employees in time for renewal. S/he is to adhere to Heifer's policies and procedures, including when using project vehicles.Responsibilities & DeliverablesEstablish, manage, and maintain allocated project vehicle (35%)Daily, track and record vehicle mileage and fuel consumption.Prepare and submit vehicle monitoring reports, including records of vehicle operations, fuel, and mileage at the end of each month.Record official and personal trips as needed.Comply with Heifer Policies and procedures regarding vehicle use.Ensure that the motor vehicle has valid and up-to-date documents.Vehicle Security and Maintenance (30%)Conduct inspection of the vehicle before departing for duties.Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and tidy.Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and ability to execute any related task to make sure the vehicle is safe to drive, including but not limited to topping up the water in the engine, making sure that lights work, and examining oil levels.Ensure the vehicle is closed and secured after working hours.Ensure that all the necessary tools and documents are kept in vehicles. These include; valid driving license, First Aid kit, insurance, vehicle license, reserve tire, control technique papers, taxes, jack, jack handle, wheel spanner, and fire extinguishers.Ensure vehicle insurance and registration is updated according to schedule.Ensure the vehicle is serviced at the right mileage reading as provided in the manual.Report any major repairs required on office vehicles.Be ultimately responsible for the safety of the vehicles and passengers (20%)Observe the road and Country traffic laws, signs, and regulationsEnsure punctuality and safe transportation of staff, visitors, and partners (as required), per the Standard Operating Procedures.Support Project Logistics (10%)Support the logistics of events on-field by counter verifying and moving/returning the required administrative materials.Actively assist the smooth running of field meetings, seminars, conferences, and training, as required.Pick and deliver office shipments /parcels /correspondencesAny Other Assigned Function (5%)May perform other job-related duties as assigned, including support in clerical duties as shall be directed by the supervisor.Essential Character Traits:The ideal candidate should be respectful, polite, accountable, patient, teachable, flexible, helpful, creative and team oriented. Additional traits include capability of working under high pressure and good communication skills. Minimum RequirementsPick and deliver office shipments /parcels /correspondencesSecondary School Certificate or EquivalentOwnership/possession of Drivers’ LicenceGreat professional driving skills plus ten (10) years relevant experience in a structured organization setting.Experience in/ability to work with top Executives.Vocational mechanic trainingExceptional knowledge of traffic laws and regulationsUnderstanding of motor vehicle functionalityExcellent time management skillsPreferred RequirementsExperience working in NGO and international development organizations is an added advantage.Pick and deliver office shipments /parcels /correspondencesSecondary School Certificate or EquivalentOwnership/possession of Drivers’ LicenceMost Critical ProficienciesBasic to intermediate knowledge of vehicle mechanics.Strong communication skills in English language.Ability to read and write.Good knowledge of road network and routes.Strong adherence to Heifer’s motor vehicle usage policy, as well as local and national traffic laws, always.Knowledge of simple clerical work.Essential Job Functions and Physical DemandsExtremely clean, organized, and ready to maintain the assigned vehicle in excellent mechanical condition.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to individuals diplomatically and tactfully.Must be courteous, honest, and of high integrity, especially in high-pressure situations.Self-starter and self-motivator with the ability to work in a multicultural setting.Must be a team player and have the ability to execute and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.Ability to follow directions and independently complete assigned tasks (written or verbal).Ability to work a varied schedule to include early mornings, weekends, and some evenings.Ability to lift and carry up to 25 kilograms of items (floor to waist), as required.Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.Illustrative Key Performance Indicators Up-to-date logbook for vehicle maintenance at end of each month Up-to-date logbook indicating vehicle and staff movement at end of each month Application closes on May 10, 2024.
