Job Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Manager, Risk & Recovery, who will be responsible for supporting enterprise and credit risk monitoring while actively managing delinquent accounts to minimize losses and reduce non -performing loans (NPLs). The role bridges proactive risk identification with structured recovery execution, ensuring compliance with CBN guidelines and internal credit policies.
This role is critical to maintaining asset quality, strengthening risk culture, and protecting the bank’s financial stability.
What you will be doing
1. Loan Recovery and Remedial Management
Manage assigned delinquent accounts and implement structured recovery plans.
Conduct borrower reassessments and recommend restructuring where viable.
Negotiate repayment arrangements while protecting the bank’s interest.
Escalate accounts for legal action where necessary.
2. Credit and Portfolio Risk Monitoring
Monitor loan portfolio performance, including PAR, NPL, and concentration risks.
Identify early warning signals and escalate emerging risks.
Support periodic portfolio stress reviews and risk assessments.
Ensure compliance with credit risk policies and approval conditions.
3. Collaboration with Legal and Recovery Partners
Strong working knowledge of litigation processes related to loan recovery and delinquent accounts.
Demonstrated experience in managing collateral assets, including documentation, valuation, perfection, and enforcement.
Good understanding of court procedures and legal frameworks governing debt recovery.
Proven familiarity with end -to -end collections processes, including recovery strategies, escalation, and resolution.
Ability to effectively coordinate with external legal counsel, recovery agents, and asset tracking firms to drive timely recoveries.
4. Process and Control Enhancement
Recommend improvements to risk monitoring and recovery processes.
Support implementation of stronger internal controls to reduce future delinquencies.
Provide feedback to Credit and Underwriting teams on recurring risk patterns.
5. Risk Reporting and Documentation
Prepare periodic risk and recovery performance reports.
Maintain updated risk registers and recovery trackers.
Ensure accurate documentation of recovery actions and restructuring approvals.
6. Regulatory and Policy Compliance
Ensure adherence to CBN prudential guidelines and MFB regulatory requirements.
Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
Monitor provisioning classifications and ensure proper loan categorization.
7. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with Credit, Operations, Finance, and Legal teams.
Support risk awareness initiatives across business units.
Maintain professional and firm engagement with customers during recovery processes.
Requirements
Special Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
5+ years of experience in risk management, credit analysis, or recovery within banking, microfinance or OFIs.
Strong understanding of CBN prudential guidelines and MFB risk management requirements.
Understanding of IFRS9 model.
Experience handling SME, retail, or microcredit portfolios.
Experience handling legal escalations, repossessions, and third -party recovery agents.
Evidence of achieving low delinquency and improved portfolio quality.
Strong Loan restructuring and negotiation skills.
Deep understanding of credit risk and portfolio dynamics.
Strong field recovery coordination and customer engagement experience.
Ability to manage difficult customers professionally.
Process -oriented and documentation -focused.
