Database Engineer (Multi Platform)

Database Engineer with strong presales expertise, responsible for supporting database modernization, cloud migration initiatives, and the design of high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) architectures, as well as platform selection across SQL, NoSQL, and cloud database solutions.

The role involves advising customers on database transformation strategies, presenting technical solutions, preparing and responding to RFPs, and designing scalable, secure, and resilient database architectures.

Expertise spans a wide range of technologies, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, and Cosmos DB, as well as cloud-native database services.

The role is also responsible for driving growth of the database services portfolio through solution innovation, customer engagement, and effective presales support.

Key Responsibilities

Presales Skills

• Conduct technical discovery sessions and perform detailed requirements analysis with customers.
  


• Design database architectures across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, and NoSQL platforms.
  


• Prepare and respond to RFP/RFQ documents, including solution design, technical write-ups, and BOM (Bill of Materials).
  


• Lead database modernization assessments and develop cloud migration strategies and proposals.
  


• Deliver customer presentations, technical demonstrations, and Proof of Concepts (POCs).
  


• Perform Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Return on Investment (ROI) analysis for database consolidation and migration initiatives.
  

Key Experience & Technical Responsibilities

• Support sales teams in database migration strategy sessions and solution positioning.
  


• Present database performance optimization and tuning approaches to enterprise customers.
  


• Design and implement High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) architectures for mission-critical systems.
  


• Assist in database sizing, licensing alignment, and cloud migration cost modeling.
  


• Develop High-Level Design (HLD), Low-Level Design (LLD), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational documentation.
  


• Participate in presales activities including scoping, effort estimation, BOM preparation, and customer presentations.
  


• Drive continuous improvement of database service offerings, SLAs, and managed services.
  


• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and administer Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and NoSQL databases across on-premises and cloud environments.
  


• Implement and support HA/DR solutions such as Oracle Data Guard/Active Data Guard, SQL Server Always On, PostgreSQL streaming replication, MySQL clustering, and cloud-native redundancy services.
  


• Design and execute backup and restore strategies, disaster recovery testing, and operational runbooks across all supported platforms.
  


• Manage and optimize cloud-native database services, including Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Amazon RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, and Cosmos DB.
  


• Lead database migration projects across on-premises to cloud, cloud-to-cloud, and cross-engine migration environments.
  

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  

Experience (Required)

• 3–6+ years of hands-on experience with at least two major database engines, including:

• Strong experience in backup and restore strategies, High Availability (HA)/Disaster Recovery (DR), monitoring, performance tuning, and automation.
  


• Proven experience migrating workloads either from on-premises to cloud environments or between different database engines.
  

Experience (Preferred / Nice-to-Have)

• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, or Cosmos DB.
  


• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  


• Exposure to containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  

Certifications (Preferred)

• Oracle OCP or other Oracle certifications.
  


• Microsoft SQL Server certifications.
  


• PostgreSQL certifications.
  


• Azure DP-300 certification.
  


• AWS Database or Data Analytics Specialty certifications.
