As the finance officer, you will assist in preparing and managing budgets, processing invoices, reconciling bank statements, preparing financial reports and ensuring compliance with local finance laws. In addition, you will work closely with the finance team to translate our strategic goals into effective finance initiatives that will help us to grow and succeed in a rapidly changing market.


 


Key areas of responsibility for the role will include:



Financial Management



  • Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial targets;

  • Maintaining financial records and documentation, including invoices, receipts, and expense reports;

  • Performing financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making processes.



Accounts Payable and Receivable



  • Processing and reconciling invoices, ensuring timely payment to suppliers and accurate recording of expenses;

  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables, facilitating timely collection from clients;

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of accounts payable and accounts receivable.



Bank Reconciliation



  • Reconciling bank statements with the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and identifying any discrepancies;

  • Preparing and processing bank deposits and withdrawals;

  • Monitoring cash flow and forecast cash needs to ensure adequate funds are available.



Financial Reporting



  • Preparing accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.;

  • Assisting in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;

  • Conducting financial analysis and providing insights to support management decision-making.



Compliance and Audit



  • Ensuring compliance with local financial regulations and tax laws;

  • Assisting in preparing financial information for audits and liaising with auditors as required;

  • Maintaining and updating financial policies and procedures in line with regulatory changes.



Financial Systems and Processes



  • Assisting in implementing and maintaining financial systems and software;

  • Identifying areas for process improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy;

  • Providing training and support to staff on financial procedures and systems.



Person Specification



Educational Qualifications/ Professional Certifications



  • Tertiary education (e.g. Higher Diploma, Bachelor's) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. 

  • Professional certification or currently enrolled to be certified with institutes/bodies such as ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is preferred.



Experience:



  • A minimum of 2-4 years of relevant accounting and finance experience, preferably in a similar role in Nigeria's public relations or communications industry.



Required Skills and Aptitudes:



  • Sound knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations;

  • Proficiency in financial accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting;

  • Familiarity with Nigerian tax laws and compliance requirements;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide insights;

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting;

  • Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel. 

  • Apple to use work management tools within the Google Workspace interface.

  • Effective organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

  • Ethical conduct and integrity in handling confidential financial information.
