With a long-standing track record in engineering excellence and project delivery, the company continues to expand its operations and is seeking an experienced Foreman to lead site crews, coordinate daily construction activities, and ensure work is executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with required quality standards.
Job Summary:
The Foreman will be responsible for leading and supervising a specific trade or crew of construction workers on-site, ensuring that assigned works are completed safely, efficiently, and according to approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The role will allocate daily tasks, monitor workmanship and productivity, coordinate tools and materials, maintain discipline and safety within the crew, and report progress or issues to the Site Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise small teams of skilled workers and laborers within a specific construction trade, such as carpentry, masonry, steel fixing, tiling, plastering, or related works.
Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to crew members based on the project schedule and site priorities.
Ensure work is executed according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and site instructions.
Monitor the quality, accuracy, and workmanship of completed activities.
Ensure assigned works are completed within the required timeframe and productivity targets.
Provide practical guidance and instructions to workers regarding construction methods and work procedures.
Monitor the efficient use of tools, equipment, materials, and other site resources.
Identify material, equipment, or manpower requirements and communicate them to the Site Supervisor.
Coordinate with other trades to ensure proper sequencing and avoid delays or conflicts between activities.
Maintain discipline, attendance, and productivity within the assigned crew.
Enforce site safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe working practices among all crew members.
Identify unsafe conditions and immediately address or report them to the Site Supervisor.
Inspect completed work and rectify minor workmanship issues where required.
Monitor daily progress and provide accurate updates to the Site Supervisor.
Report construction problems, delays, material shortages, and other site issues promptly.
Maintain good housekeeping and ensure the assigned work area remains clean, organized, and safe.
Assist the Site Supervisor and Site Engineer during inspections, measurements, snagging, and corrective works.
Support the training and development of less-experienced workers within the assigned trade.
Requirements:
8–12 years of experience in construction, with significant hands-on experience within a relevant building trade.
Proven experience working as a Foreman or Senior Foreman on building construction projects.
Strong practical knowledge of one or more construction trades, such as:
Carpentry
Masonry
Steel Fixing
Plastering
Tiling
Finishing Works
Concrete Works
Other relevant building trades
Experience supervising and coordinating skilled workers, tradesmen, and laborers.
Ability to understand and follow construction drawings, specifications, and site instructions relevant to the assigned trade.
Good understanding of construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
Strong knowledge of site safety and HSE requirements.
Ability to monitor workmanship, productivity, and material usage.
Strong practical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Good communication and leadership skills, particularly when managing multi-skilled site crews.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet project deadlines.
Experience working on construction projects in Nigeria or other African markets would be an advantage.
Relevant technical, vocational, or trade certification is preferred.
