Job Description - Head, Business Operations


The Head, Business Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Company’s business support functions — Accounts, HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment), Office Administration, IT, and Supply Chain Management. The role ensures that these business units operate efficiently, meet performance goals, and align with the Company’s strategic objectives, values, and regulatory requirements.

Additionally, the role involves close collaboration with executive management to develop and execute operational strategies, scale processes to support business growth, and ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The Head, Business Operations will also drive a high-performance culture and promote cross-functional collaboration across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning & Resource Allocation

  • Lead strategic planning and resource allocation across assigned business units.
  • Establish operational and performance goals for departments under supervision.
  • Analyze internal operations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead business improvement programs and operational efficiency initiatives.

2. Operations Management

  • Oversee daily operations across Accounts, HSSE, Administration, IT, and Supply Chain functions.
  • Supervise administrative processes, facility management, and employee safety initiatives.
  • Ensure deployment of appropriate IT systems and tools to support efficient operations.

3. Financial Oversight

  • Oversee accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and planning functions.
  • Liaise with the Corporate Finance team where applicable.
  • Allocate financial resources and monitor performance against approved budgets.
  • Implement policies to improve cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.

4. Supply Chain & Procurement Oversight

  • Ensure effective end-to-end supply chain management.
  • Supervise procurement, contracting, vendor management, inventory, and logistics activities.
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods and services while optimizing costs.

5. HSSE & Compliance

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure safety, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Enforce policies that mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment.

6. Stakeholder & External Relations

  • Serve as the primary liaison with suppliers, regulators, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead negotiations and review commercial agreements in line with company strategy.

7. Leadership & Performance Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members across business units.
  • Establish KPIs and monitor performance across departments.
  • Drive accountability and a high-performance culture.

8. Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall business objectives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) are an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting, supply chain, IT systems, HSSE, and administrative operations.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience in procurement, finance, and/or operations management.
  • Prior experience in a senior management or leadership role is required.
