Job Description - Head of Sales in FMCG




Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Sales Head in core Fmcg. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in General Trade sales and a proven track record of driving business growth in the FMCG sector, preferably from peanut butter, margarine, mayonnaise or similar food spread categories. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies, managing teams across Nigeria and achieving aggressive revenue and distribution targets.







Key Responsibilities:







• Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies to achieve category growth and profitability objectives.



• Lead, motivate and manage a team of first-line managers and foot soldiers across the regions.



• Drive General Trade (GT) expansion through effective distributor management, retail penetration, and market activation initiatives.



• Identify and develop new business opportunities to increase market share and strengthen brand presence.



• Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement promotional campaigns and sales initiatives.



• Participate in trade shows, conferences, and other industry events to promote the products.



• Collaborate with Supply Chain, and Finance teams to ensure seamless business operations.



• Plan and monitor sales budgets, incentive schemes, and performance metrics for the sales team.



• Ensure compliance with company policies, pricing guidelines, and credit control measures.



• Regularly report performance updates and market feedback to senior management.


Requirements



Required Qualifications & Experience:







• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field.



• 2-3 years of experience in hardcore General Trade sales within the FMCG industry.



• Proven experience handling food spread products (peanut butter, margarine, mayonnaise, etc.) is highly desirable.



• Experience in managing the sales teams as a first-line or second-line leader.



• Strong understanding of distribution networks, channel management, and retail operations.

• Ability to lead and motivate a sales team to achieve high performance.







• Strong understanding of sales processes, customer relationship management, and market dynamics.

• Effective communication and negotiation skills.



• High level of ownership, integrity, and result orientation.



• Ability to work under pressure and meet demanding sales targets.



• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
