Job Description - Regional Business Development Manager

About the role
The Regional Business Development Manager role focuses on merchant acquisition for PoS deployment, relationship management across Flutterwave products and services, and business banking operations with Flutterwave MFB. You will develop and execute the overall distribution strategy for Flutterwave to effectively onboard merchants and drive transaction and revenue growth across the region.
Additionally, you will lead the regional team to meet aggressive targets for merchant network expansion, ensuring coverage in key strategic markets, while maximizing the performance and profitability of the merchant network through high transaction volumes and consistent service quality. You will also identify new business opportunities through on-ground research to establish Flutterwave as a leader within the region.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Regional Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement localized sales strategies to achieve merchant onboarding, transaction volume, and revenue targets.
Merchant Acquisition: Proactively identify, engage, and onboard high-value merchants (enterprise and retail) across the region.
Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of field sales officers/business developers, conducting weekly reviews against KPIs.
Market Intelligence: Monitor competitive offerings and provide actionable insights to the Product and Marketing teams regarding local market needs.
Reporting: Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on regional performance for executive management.
Required competencies to be a Waver:
7–9 years’ experience in business development, sales, or regional commercial leadership, ideally within financial services, fintech, or a comparable industry
Demonstrated experience leading and managing field sales teams against aggressive KPIs and revenue targets
Proven track record of driving merchant and customer acquisition, transaction volume, and revenue growth
Strong understanding of local market dynamics and the competitive landscape within the region
Experience managing loan, deposit, or savings portfolios is an advantage
Familiarity with KYC and regulatory compliance requirements within financial services
Comfort owning and reporting against performance scorecards and targets
