Job Description - Retail Sales Manager (oil and gas)


Job Title: Retail Sales Manager (oil and gas)

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Industry: Oil & Gas (Lubricants & FMCG-style retail distribution)

Reports To: Head of Sales / General Manager, Commercial

Job Summary:

The Retail Sales Manager will be responsible for driving the sales and market penetration of lubricant products and other related offerings through retail and B2C channels. This role requires strategic thinking, territory management, and execution of effective sales and distribution strategies. The ideal candidate will bring strong FMCG experience, commercial acumen, and proven team leadership to increase market share and brand visibility in the lubricants segment.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy & Execution



  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve volume, revenue, and margin targets for lubricants and related retail products.

  • Monitor sales performance, analyze data, and adjust plans to meet targets.

  • Grow the retail footprint through new channel development and strategic partnerships.

  • Drive product penetration in key market segments such as auto spare part dealers, mechanic workshops, independent retailers, and filling stations.

Team Leadership & Channel Management



  • Lead and manage a team of sales representatives and merchandisers to deliver sales KPIs.

  • Conduct performance reviews, training, and coaching to build a high-performance retail sales team.

  • Manage relationships with distributors, channel partners, retailers, and other stakeholders.

Market Intelligence & Business Development



  • Gather and analyze market intelligence on competitors, pricing, customer preferences, and market trends.

  • Identify new business opportunities, retail channels, and underpenetrated areas to increase brand reach.

  • Drive promotional campaigns and trade marketing activities in collaboration with marketing teams.

Customer Relationship Management



  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, retail partners, and influencers (e.g., mechanics, service centers).

  • Resolve customer complaints and ensure excellent after-sales support and service delivery.

Reporting & Forecasting



  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and reports to management.

  • Track distributor stock levels, monitor retail sales trends, and proactively prevent stockouts or overstocking.

Requirements & Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or any related field.

  • Minimum of 7–10 years experience in retail sales, preferably in the FMCG or lubricant sector.

  • Demonstrated success managing retail distribution networks and driving sales growth.

  • Strong understanding of route-to-market (RTM) strategies and retail execution standards.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint); ERP experience is a plus.

  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Must be resident in Lagos or willing to relocate.
