Rigger

Job Purpose

To safely prepare, rig, guide, and secure cargo and equipment for lifting, loading, unloading, and transportation operations by selecting appropriate rigging gear, ensuring load stability, and complying with all lifting procedures and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Assess load weight, dimensions, center of gravity, and lifting points to determine appropriate rigging methods and safe lifting procedures.

· Select, inspect, assemble, and maintain rigging equipment

· Inspect rigging gear before and after each use to ensure compliance with safety standards.

· Secure loads using approved rigging techniques to ensure safe lifting and transportation.

· Guide crane operators, forklift operators, and other lifting equipment operators using approved hand signals and radio communication.

· Ensure loads are accurately positioned, aligned, and safely released at designated locations.

· Conduct pre-lift inspections and participate in lift planning activities, including identifying potential hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.

· Report damaged or defective rigging equipment and remove unserviceable gear from operation.

· Ensure all lifting operations comply with company procedures, lifting plans, statutory regulations, and HSE requirements.

· Maintain accurate inspection records and report incidents

Qualifications

· Minimum of OND

· Rigging certification or recognized lifting operations training is required.

· Valid certification in Banksman/Signalman duties is an added advantage.

Experience

· Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Rigger in ports, marine terminals, or heavy industrial environments.

· Experience supporting crane, heavy lift, or cargo handling operations is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

· Knowledge of rigging equipment, lifting, and safe lifting techniques.

· Ability to interpret lifting plans, load charts, and rigging calculations.

· Knowledge of hand signals and radio communication procedures.
