Job Description - Sales and Business Development Officer (Shipping & Logistics)

Our client is prominent in the shipping and logistics industry, providing core services in air freight, sea freight, customs clearance/port operations, haulage/trucking, oil and gas logistics, marine logistics, and protocol services.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Business Development Officer to join our team. In this role, you will support the Sales & Business Development Manager in expanding our client base, driving revenue growth, and strengthening our presence in the highly competitive logistics and freight forwarding industry.

As a Business Development Officer specialising in Freight Forwarding, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and establishing new business opportunities for our company in the highly competitive logistics and transportation industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to gain hands-on experience and build industry expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

Prospecting and Lead Generation:

  • Identify and target potential clients through market research, industry analysis, and networking.
  • Generate high-quality leads through outbound calls, emails, and meetings.

Client Acquisition:

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects.
  • Conduct in-depth needs analysis to understand client requirements and offer tailored logistics solutions.
  • Prepare and present compelling proposals and quotations.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Nurture and maintain relationships with existing clients to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, addressing their concerns and resolving issues promptly.

Market Intelligence:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the management team based on market research.

Revenue Growth:

  • Meet and exceed sales targets and revenue goals.
  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities within the client portfolio.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Work closely with the operations team to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and strategies.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activities, client interactions, and opportunities in CRM systems.
  • Prepare regular reports on sales performance and forecasts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Logistics, or related field.
  • Proven sales and business development track record, with at least 5 years of experience in the freight forwarding industry
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, or B2B sales.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with international trade, logistics operations, or supply chain basics (knowledge of INCOTERMS is an advantage).
