Job Description - Sales and Business Development Officer (Shipping & Logistics)
Our client is prominent in the shipping and logistics industry, providing core services in air freight, sea freight, customs clearance/port operations, haulage/trucking, oil and gas logistics, marine logistics, and protocol services.
We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Business Development Officer to join our team. In this role, you will support the Sales & Business Development Manager in expanding our client base, driving revenue growth, and strengthening our presence in the highly competitive logistics and freight forwarding industry.
As a Business Development Officer specialising in Freight Forwarding, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and establishing new business opportunities for our company in the highly competitive logistics and transportation industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to gain hands-on experience and build industry expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Prospecting and Lead Generation:
Identify and target potential clients through market research, industry analysis, and networking.
Generate high-quality leads through outbound calls, emails, and meetings.
Client Acquisition:
Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospects.
Conduct in-depth needs analysis to understand client requirements and offer tailored logistics solutions.
Prepare and present compelling proposals and quotations.
Client Relationship Management:
Nurture and maintain relationships with existing clients to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Serve as the main point of contact for clients, addressing their concerns and resolving issues promptly.
Market Intelligence:
Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities.
Provide insights and recommendations to the management team based on market research.
Revenue Growth:
Meet and exceed sales targets and revenue goals.
Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities within the client portfolio.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work closely with the operations team to ensure smooth service delivery.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and strategies.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activities, client interactions, and opportunities in CRM systems.
Prepare regular reports on sales performance and forecasts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Logistics, or related field.
Proven sales and business development track record, with at least 5 years of experience in the freight forwarding industry
2–4 years of relevant experience in freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, or B2B sales.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated with a results-driven attitude.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in using CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with international trade, logistics operations, or supply chain basics (knowledge of INCOTERMS is an advantage).
