ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Accountant oversees financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and adherence to ISO 9001:2015 standards for documentation and process control. This role manages budgeting, cost analysis, and financial audits while supporting project cost tracking and profitability analysis. The Senior Accountant contributes to financial integrity, risk management, and strategic decision-making across construction projects and corporate operations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and statutory requirements.
Manage general ledger accounts, reconcile balances, and ensure timely month-end and year-end closing.
Monitor project budgets and costs, track variances, and provide financial insights to project managers.
Develop and maintain cost control systems, ensuring alignment with ISO documentation standards.
Coordinate internal and external audits, prepare schedules, and ensure readiness for ISO and statutory audits.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and accurate records.
Prepare tax computations and filings, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
Generate financial reports and dashboards for management review, including cash flow, profitability, and cost-to-completion analysis.
Support procurement and contract teams with financial evaluations and payment schedules.
Ensure compliance with company financial policies, SOPs, and ISO standards for document control and record retention.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Participate in risk assessments, identifying financial risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; ACA/ACCA certification required.
Minimum of 10 years experience in accounting, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
Second degree (Master’s or MBA) is mandatory
Strong knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax laws, and ISO 9001:2015 documentation requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP systems) and MS Excel.
