Job Description - Strategic Entrepreneur





















The role of the Strategic Entrepreneur is to work closely with the Managing Director as an assistant to aid efforts geared at ensuring the proper articulation of business strategies and the attainment of periodic goals and objectives. 




Oversees administrative procedures and processes for the MD’s Office, usually acting as the administrative liaison with internal and/or external sources, and represents the MD at various meetings or external events as may be delegated.

Responsible for identifying, gathering and communicating state regulatory, political actions and issues that may impact Company’s business and operations, and works closely with the relevant departments across the Group to ensure relevant and timely information is given to stakeholders in this regard.

To provide functional and strategic business support to the MD and may, in addition, be required to support other key Group Executives of the Company.




MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic: 



  • Provides necessary assistance to the MD in the formulation and execution of Company’s Vision, short and long term objectives, plans, and policies. 

  • Supports the MD in the development and implementation of proper operating plans, budgets, and broad policies governing all aspects of business operations and administration. 

  • Facilitates the development and implementation of broad policies governing all aspects of business operations and administration, and helps the MD with the analysis required in monitoring corporate performance, and to ascertain progress toward the attainment of stated business objectives.

  • Research, assemble and analyses fairly complex data and other background material required for taking the key day to day business decisions.

  • Supports the MD in the provision of key information to various internal and external stakeholders as regards regulatory issues, marketplace needs, the competitive environment, business performance and other pertinent issues.



Operational:



  • Provides input to the identification of the business, regulatory, operational and performance risks, and the resolution of attendant issues. 

  • Reviews business and project plans, activity status reports and financial statements to determine progress towards attaining objectives; suggests revisions and required alignments to Group and Company goals & plans based on current business realities and conditions. 

  • Performs various forms of business, financial and technical analysis; compiles reports providing critical information to the MD and other key Group Executives for decision making. 

  • Develops communication material (e.g. presentations and research papers) at the MD’s behest and may deliver same on his behalf. 

  • Schedules and coordinates important meetings/events on behalf of the MD. 

  • Performs other assigned duties as delegated by the MD from time to time. 



Health & Safety Responsibilities:



  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and security regulations and policies.

  • Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all staff under direct management and expected to contribute to the health and safety of all personnel in the overall business unit.

  • Comply with health and safety procedures and instructions.

  • Learning & Growth responsibilities include keeping abreast of developments and changes in the field by reading pertinent journals, attending meetings and courses.



ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES OF ROLE



  • Adequacy of business and technical administrative support provided to the MD.

  • The quality of Analysis, findings and recommendations. 

  • Quality, depth, and adequacy of business reports/papers developed or presented. 

  • Quality, adequacy, timeliness and effectiveness of recommendations for process & systems. changes in enabling business performance improvements. 



JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:  A good University degree in any of the Social Sciences or equivalent. An MBA will be an added advantage.

Experience: A minimum of 5 - 7 years experience within a reputable corporate organization.




KEY SKILLS

Knowledge:

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:



  • Local and International Oil & Gas Industry History and Dynamics (including some knowledge of laws and regulations) 

  • Cost/Management Accounting (B/Sheet, P&L analysis, key ratios) 

  • Financial Management 

  • Business Performance Monitoring 

  • Project Management 

  • Time Management 



Skills:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:



  • Presentation skills 

  • Leadership/Supervisory 

  • Networking 

  • Negotiation 

  • Proficient in use of MS Office application

  • Reporting skills
