We are looking to recruit a Structural Engineer to oversee construction activities and ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and regulations.
This role is crucial to the success of a significant international euro-based project in Lagos State.
Functional Responsibilities
Design and Analysis
Structural Design: Develop detailed designs for ferry terminals, docks, bridges, and related infrastructure, ensuring they meet safety, durability, and aesthetic standards.
Load Analysis: Use software and engineering principles to perform structural analysis to determine how various loads will affect structures.
Material Selection: Choose appropriate construction materials based on structural requirements, cost-effectiveness, and environmental considerations.
Project Management
Project Planning: Collaborate with project managers to develop project timelines, budgets, and scopes related to structural engineering tasks.
Coordination: Work with architects, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that structural designs integrate seamlessly with overall project plans.
Construction Oversight
Construction Supervision: Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and regulations.
Site Inspections: Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor progress, identify issues, and ensure quality control throughout construction.
Regulatory Compliance
Code Adherence: Ensure all designs and constructions comply with local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
Permit Acquisition: Assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals from regulatory authorities before construction begins.
Maintenance and Rehabilitation
Condition Assessments: Regularly inspect existing structures (e.g., docks, terminals) to assess their condition and identify maintenance needs.
Rehabilitation Design: Develop plans for repairing or upgrading ageing structures to extend their lifespan and improve safety and functionality.
Safety and Risk Management
Safety Evaluations: Assess potential risks associated with structural designs and construction methods and implement measures to mitigate identified risks.
Emergency Preparedness: Collaborate with ferry operations and safety teams to develop emergency response plans for structural failures or incidents.
Technical Documentation
Report Preparation: Prepare detailed reports, specifications, and documentation related to structural designs, analyses, and construction activities.
Technical Drawings: Create and review technical drawings and plans to ensure clarity and accuracy in communication with construction teams and stakeholders.
Cost Estimation and Budgeting
Cost Analysis: Estimate costs for materials, labour, and construction processes associated with structural projects.
Budget Monitoring: Track project expenditures related to structural engineering to ensure adherence to budget constraints.
Research and Development
Innovation: Stay updated on advancements in structural engineering practices, materials, and technologies that can enhance ferry operations.
Sustainability Practices: Research and implement sustainable engineering practices that minimise environmental impact and promote energy efficiency in structures.
Collaboration and Communication
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., marine and electrical) to ensure holistic project development and execution.
Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including ferry operators, regulatory agencies, and the public, to address concerns and provide updates on structural projects.

Project Cost Management
HSE and QA/QC Compliance
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Structural or Civil Engineering from a reputable University.
Experience with terminal buildings and marine infrastructure
Membership of a recognised Professional Engineering Body.
Professional certification in project management is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Construction Industry.
