Job Description - Team Lead, Deal Origination & Client Coverage (Investment Banking)


Reporting To: Head, Origination and Client Coverage

Our client is the investment banking arm of a leading and rapidly growing financial services group, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, with a strong reputation for delivering innovative advisory and capital market solutions.

 

The Company is seeking to hire a commercially astute investment professional with a proven ability to originate transactions, build influential corporate relationships, and unlock growth opportunities in West Africa with focus on Nigeria and Ghana.

 

Job Objective:

The Team Lead, Deal Origination & Client Coverage, will play a pivotal role in driving transaction origination, deepening client relationships, and creating strategic opportunities across the Group's investment banking and financial services businesses.

 

This role offers a unique platform to work at the intersection of corporate finance, capital markets, asset management, trusteeship, securities trading, and wealth creation while influencing some of the most significant transactions in the Nigerian market.

This role will serve as a trusted advisor to corporate clients while leading business development initiatives that drive revenue growth, strengthen client relationships, and expand the firm's market presence.

 

Success in this role requires a strong network within the Nigerian corporate landscape, exceptional relationship management capabilities, commercial acumen, and a demonstrated track record of converting opportunities into successful transactions.

 

Key Responsibilities

Deal Origination & Business Development

§  Identify, develop, and execute transaction opportunities across multiple sectors

§  Build and maintain a robust pipeline of high-quality prospects and mandates

§  Source and secure transactions for various business units within the Group

§  Develop strategic relationships that generate sustainable deal flow

Client Coverage & Relationship Management

§  Serve as a trusted partner to corporate clients and institutional investors

§  Understand client needs and develop tailored financial solutions

§  Expand and deepen relationships with existing clients while acquiring new strategic accounts

§  Maintain regular engagement with senior executives and key stakeholders

 

Strategic Leadership

§  Provide leadership and direction to the Origination & Client Coverage team

§  Drive performance against revenue and transaction origination targets

§  Coordinate effectively across investment banking, asset management, securities trading, trusteeship, and financing businesses

§  Contribute to the firm's overall commercial growth strategy

 

Market Intelligence & Industry Engagement

§  Monitor industry trends, market developments, and emerging opportunities

§  Represent the firm at conferences, industry forums, and strategic engagements

§  Build a strong professional network that enhances market visibility and deal access






Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

§  10+ years' experience in Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Private Equity, Corporate Finance, Financial Advisory, Capital Markets, or related financial services sectors

§  Demonstrated success in transaction origination, client coverage, business development, or relationship management

§  Strong network of corporate decision-makers, business leaders, and institutional stakeholders

§  Proven ability to originate and execute commercially viable opportunities

§  Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills

§  Strong commercial mindset with a passion for creating value and driving growth

§  Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline

§  MBA, CFA, ACA, ACCA, or other relevant professional qualifications will be an added advantage

Benefits



Compensation: N45m to N55m Annual Base Pay + Other Benefits.
