Summary

The Security, Peace, and Development (SPD) Intern plays a vital role in assisting the SPD team with research, policy analysis, and data interpretation. Reporting to Analysts and Senior Analysts, the intern contributes to the creation of the SPD Daily and various analytical deliverables by monitoring emerging trends, synthesizing evidence, and crafting precise insights on security, peacebuilding, governance, and development challenges across Nigeria and the broader region. This position provides practical exposure to evidence-based analysis that directly supports the strategic decisions of Nextier's clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Track daily news, reports, and open-source intelligence regarding security, conflict, governance, and development to generate summaries and initial drafts for the SPD Daily.
Perform comprehensive desk research, literature reviews, and background analysis focused on themes of peace, security, governance, and development.
Evaluate public policies, legislation, budgetary allocations, and government initiatives, summarizing their potential impact on security and development results.
Gather, clean, organize, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data, such as conflict incident records, while working under the supervision of Analysts.
Manage and update SPD tracking systems and databases, creating basic charts, tables, and dashboards to visualize key trends.
Write content for policy briefs, reports, articles, and short commentaries, including specific contributions to the Nextier Policy Weekly.
Conduct fact-checking, proofreading, and source verification to guarantee the accuracy and high quality of all SPD publications.
Assist in the development of presentations, infographics, and other knowledge-sharing materials.
