About the Role

We're looking for a curious, systems-minded graduate to join our People Team as a People Operations & AI Automation Intern.

You'll learn how the People Team works while helping us find simpler, smarter ways to get work done. A big part of your role will be looking at how we currently do things and asking:

"Why are we doing this manually?" "Can we simplify this?" "Could AI or automation do this for us?"

You don't need HR experience. You don't need to be an AI expert either. We're just looking for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys figuring out how things work, has experimented with AI or automation, and gets excited about turning a messy process into something simpler.

What You’ll Be Owning

Understand How Work Gets Done

• Learn how our People processes and systems work.
• Map recurring workflows and understand where time and effort are being spent.
• Spot repetitive, manual or unnecessarily complicated processes.
• Ask questions and challenge the way things are currently done.

Simplify & Automate

• Identify opportunities to make People processes simpler.
• Experiment with AI tools, agents and automation to solve real problems.
• Build simple workflows and automations with the tools available to us.
• Automate appropriate tasks such as reminders, data collection, reporting and recurring admin.
• Test your solutions, learn from what doesn't work and improve them.
• Document the solutions you build so the team can use and maintain them.

Support the People Team

You'll also support day-to-day People Team work across our core functional areas.

The goal isn't for you to become an HR administrator. It's for you to understand the work well enough to help us do it better.

Within your first 3 months, we'd like you to:

• Understand the key workflows and systems used by the People Team.
• Identify 5+ opportunities to simplify or automate our work.
• Build and test 2–3 practical AI-powered workflows or automations.
  We don't expect you to arrive knowing how to do all of this. We'll give you the context and support; we want you to bring the curiosity and willingness to figure things out.

Biggest Challenges You’ll Tackle

Here's what will keep you busy and hopefully make the role fun:

• Figuring out how things actually work: Processes aren't always documented perfectly. You'll need to ask questions, investigate and connect the dots.
• Spotting the opportunity: The hard part isn't always building the automation. It's recognising which problems are worth solving.
• Making things simpler, not fancier: We don't want AI for AI's sake. Sometimes the best solution is a better process.
• Turning experiments into something useful: Playing with AI is easy. Building something people actually use is harder.
• Learning as you go: You'll encounter tools and problems you've never seen before. We want someone who enjoys figuring them out.
• Knowing when humans need to stay in the loop: Especially when dealing with employee information and decisions.

What We’re Looking For

You don't need HR experience. In fact, we're more interested in how you think than what you've studied. You might be a great fit if:

• You're naturally curious about how things work.
• You think in terms of systems, processes and workflows.
• You enjoy finding ways to make things simpler.
• You've experimented with AI tools, AI agents or automation.
• You've built something just because you were curious even if it was a small or unfinished project.
• You're comfortable learning new tools without needing someone to teach you every step.
• You enjoy testing ideas and figuring out why something did or didn't work.
• You're comfortable with spreadsheets and basic data.
• You're organised and pay attention to detail.
• You're proactive and willing to ask, "Why do we do it this way?"
• You're excited about the possibilities of AI + automation + better ways of working.

• Built something with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar?
• Automated something in your personal life?
• Built a small app or workflow?
• Used AI to solve a problem that was annoying you?

Show us. It doesn't have to be polished. We want to know: What problem were you trying to solve? What did you build? What happened? What did you learn? That's much more interesting to us than a long list of certifications.

Reporting Line

You'll report to the Head of People and work closely with the wider People Team across People Operations, Recruitment and Engagement. You'll learn how the People function works from the inside while helping us question, simplify and improve the way we work.
