The Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) is an international membership organization representing 80 Arctic expedition cruise operators and industry stakeholders.

AECO is dedicated to ensuring that expedition cruise tourism benefits the regions it visits, with a strong focus on the natural environment, cultural preservation, local communities, and safe operations at sea and on land. AECO’s Secretariat is a multinational community of 14 dedicated professionals, and our head office is centrally located in Tromsø.

Are you our new Head of Communications?

Location: Tromsø, Norway
Position Type: Full-time


Are you ready to influence the global conversations about sustainable expedition cruising and responsible tourism? Join AECO as the strategic voice guiding the future of Arctic expedition cruising.

As the senior communicator of AECO, you will help shape the narrative around Arctic expedition cruising – to strengthen AECO’s role as a responsible, credible and influential representative of the industry.

Summary:

AECO is seeking a strategic and operative Head of Communications to lead and coordinate all external and internal communication efforts. This role is ideal for a seasoned communicator with experience in organizational operations, crisis communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication.

Responsibilities:












  • Further develop and implement AECO’s communications strategy and plans











  • Lead the communications team and coordinate cross-departmental communication efforts











  • Drive strategic positioning efforts and strengthen AECO’s reputation











  • Coordinate crisis communication and media relations











  • Oversee internal communications and promote a strong team culture











  • Ensure AECO’s tone of voice and messaging are consistent and effective











  • Supervise key messages and visual brand identity











  • Evaluate and report on communication KPIs and analytic

Qualifications:












  • Substantial experience in communication, PR or related fields











  • Strategic leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and coordinate a small, effective team











  • Fluent in English (required) and a Scandinavian language











  • Experience in crisis communication, stakeholder engagement, and media relations











  • Technologically savvy and comfortable using digital communication tools











  • Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills











  • Experience working in international or membership-based organizations is an advantage

Personal qualities:












  • Strategic and analytical – able to see the big picture while paying attention to detail











  • Independent and well-organized – yet never afraid to ask for input











  • Strong collaboration skills and experience working across disciplines – you enjoy involving colleagues from different fields and building bridges between communication, expertise, and strategy











  • Creative and solution-oriented – with a good sense of humor











  • Flexible and composed under pressure – able to handle change and unpredictable situations with confidence and a smile











  • Comfortable and confident in external representation – whether facing media, authorities, or members
