Job Description - R&D Chemists Steel Protection

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

We are looking to strengthening two of our Steel Protection environments in our R&D organization and are now looking for two skilled and engaged chemists to become our new colleagues.

One position will join our Steel Protection – Technology team. In this role, you will work with development of new paint technologies from early-stage concepts to the new technologies are ready to be used in innovation projects. The team also works with new test methods.

The other position will be a part of our Steel Protection – Topcoat Innovations department who works with innovation projects, developing new Topcoats as part of steel protection paint systems.

In both teams, you will be a key contributor to exciting projects in an international company in growth. You will have the opportunity to work hands‑on in the laboratory and collaborate with skilled colleagues across different functions. If you have a chemist background and are motivated by innovation, cooperation and technical challenges, we would like to see your application.

The position will be located at our headquarter in Sandefjord, Norway. Please state in your application if you are only interested in only one or both of the positions.

Responsibilities

For both positions, laboratory work will be a key part of your workday. You will also be expected to communicate findings and results both verbally and in writing to provide advice and recommendations for good decision-making. You are expected to follow HSEQ procedures, use safety equipment, keep safety documentation up-to-date, and maintain a tidy workspace.

In addition:

  • Be responsible for assigned products, assets, projects, or tasks and follow up towards stakeholders to ensure that the quality satisfies the requirements and are according to relevant procedures and regulations.

  • Independently execute required projects and tasks by e.g. planning, formulating, testing, and evaluating results and raw materials according to procedures and plans.

  • Run and coordinate larger tasks by planning and follow-up, to reach timelines and quality according to budget and available resources.

  • Contribute to defining and initiating new tasks and contribute professionally within own area, internally and externally, to increase quality of plans and execution.

  • Have competence and experience in own area to coach colleagues and actively develop the area according to the needs of the company, market trends, and strategic direction.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND WHAT WE OFFER

What We Look for

Chemist in Steel Protection – Technology department

  • Msc. or higher in chemistry, material technology or other relevant fields

  • Some experience with research-related tasks is considered a plus

Chemist in Steel Protection – Topcoat Innovations

  • Msc. or higher within chemistry or other relevant fields

  • Some years of relevant experience within chemical research and development is preferable

  • An interest in the practical side of research and development-work

It’s considered advantageous in both positions to be proficient with project work, and either have experience or be interested in working with project management. In addition, generally good IT and English skills are also required in both positions.
