Job Description - GE HealthCare in Oslo is looking for a Research Assistant in the Pharmaceutical Development departme

The Research Assistant, Pharmaceutical Development will join the Pharmaceutical Development department which is scientifically responsible for defining, developing and delivering formulations and materials for diagnostic imaging products. The Pharmaceutical Development team is part of Pharmaceutical Diagnostics R&D, GE HealthCare. Key business areas are neurology, oncology and cardiology, where GE HealthCare provides contrast agents and molecular imaging products across the imaging modalities MRI, X-Ray, Ultrasound, SPECT and PET. The products span across simple solutions, gas bubbles, cassette-based products and freeze-dried formulations. The drug products are for i.v. injection, so sterility assurance and adequate microbiological controls of all materials is a critical part of the development work.

Our R&D activities are growing, and we are currently seeking a Research Assistant to join our team. As a Research Assistant in Pharmaceutical Development you will get an operational role within the R&D organization. Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The Research Assistant is responsible for participating in all aspects of basic and applied research and will assist our Research Scientists in daily laboratory processes. The candidate will work independently, performing experiments and other duties according to standard operating procedures. Tasks are supervised by R&D staff, though some projects will be independent. The work is documented through standard procedures or in electronic laboratory notebook detailing the experimental work. The Research Assistant is trained in standard methods used as well as methods under development. These methods may involve the use of biological and chemical materials. The Research Assistant is also responsible for laboratory housekeeping. These duties include cleaning of laboratory, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.

A day at work can include:

  • Perform preparation and formulation processes by handling raw materials, mixing ingredients, dispensing and packing new drug product candidates, incl. operating instruments and equipment.
  • Perform a variety of routine sample preparation and analysis procedures to characterize pharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or biological matrices for stability and analytical testing.
  • Sorting and storing of laboratory samples, incl. labeling and transfer of samples for testing within departments.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and complete all laboratory documentation in clear and accurate language and according to Good Documentation Practice.
  • Inventory laboratory supplies.
  • Logistic functions such as shipments and receipt of samples between sites.
  • Operate equipment related to the preparation and formulation processes and associated SOP’s.
  • Qualify and maintain instrumentation in the laboratory.
  • Daily routine tasks and other necessary support to the research scientists.

Further, the candidate should have a problem solving mindset and have an eagerness to learn and continuously develop.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy (with specialization in Pharmaceutics or Pharmaceutical Chemistry), Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or other basic science.
  • Recent Masters degree graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Preferable with work experience in a lab environment.
  • In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered enough for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
  • Strong organizational skills, able to keep work area in order and to improve organizational systems.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team.
  • Norwegian and English fluent verbal and written.

Desired Characteristics/Skills

  • Professional experience from Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Familiar with standard laboratory techniques, proficiency in handling and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Solid understanding of safety and quality standards in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to follow laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience in organizing and managing supplies.
