Job Description - Assistant Accountant - Accounts, Payroll & Administration

Job Description

We’re looking for a detail-driven Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a 7-month fixed term contract (mid-November start). Based on-site in Te Rapa, this is a varied role covering accounts, payroll, and administration — with plenty of scope to learn and contribute. You’ll need to be available across the Christmas period (excluding public holidays).

The role can be full-time or 4 days a week, offering flexibility while still giving you exposure to a wide range of finance functions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Managing invoicing, bank reconciliations, AR and AP functions.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts, P&L reporting, and year-end accounts.
  • Running weekly and monthly payroll (BizPay/Employment Hero).
  • Supporting stocktakes and intercompany invoicing.
  • Completing GST and FBT returns.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register and supporting IT/systems tasks.
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and statutory accounts.

Qualifications

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Previous experience in a finance, payroll, or accounting role.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation skills.
  • Confidence using accounting systems (experience with Sage300 and Power BI would be a bonus).
  • A proactive mindset — someone who enjoys variety and can work independently.
  • Great communication and teamwork skills.
