Assistant Category Manager – Fixed Term Contract (End date July 2027)

Our Merchandise team works with supplier partners and store teams on category ranging, buying, pricing and promotions so we can get the right products on the right shelves at the right time for our customers.
Te Tūranga – About the role
Reporting to the Business Manager (Meat & Produce), you’ll be responsible for a number of categories across our retail banners (PAK’nSAVE, New World and Four Square). You’ll own and actively design strategies that drive growth across your assigned categories, planning, organising and operating the category to meet financial targets both as an individual and as part of the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily and promotional order processing
- Overseeing inventory and stock movement across DC and third-party storage
- Maintaining master data and updating cost prices
- Supporting inbound container management and promotional analysis
- Providing cover for chicken processing and supporting team projects

You’ll bring a proactive, data-driven approach to planning and category growth. You’re confident working cross-functionally, building relationships, and managing competing priorities.
Ideally, you’ll have:
· Commercially astute with a strong understanding of market trends and influences.
· Comfortable working with numbers and able to turn data into meaningful insights and stories.
· Ideally experienced in category management with strong business analysis skills.
· Technically savvy, naturally curious, and eager to learn.
· A confident communicator, comfortable negotiating win–win solutions.
· Experienced in B2B environments with strong relationship-building capability.
· Self-motivated, organised, and a natural problem solver.
