The Opportunity: Shape the Future of Creative Talent
The Bachelor of Design and Digital Media is an established and well-supported undergraduate programme at our Symonds Street Campus. We are seeking a contract Lecturer to deliver Coding Fundamentals, a Level 5 (Year 1) module within our Degree programme. This course is one Semester long and is usually run on a Thursday or Friday afternoon starting mid-February 2026.
Students will explore creative coding for the web, focusing on innovative design and the reimagining of modern technology. The curriculum covers digital trend analysis and the development of foundational interactive, code-driven outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
· Delivering teaching that enables students to analyse historic and emerging trends within online digital media environments.
· Supporting students in demonstrating formal design outcomes through technical restrictions and code.
· Guiding learners through indicative content, including fundamental HTML, CSS, and basic interactive design.
· Facilitating critical reflection on creative approaches to coding and existing internet developments.
· Assessing student work, including written reflections and website projects.
· Providing constructive feedback on formative activities and summative assessments.

You are passionate about your students and your team and are driven to helping them achieve the highest possible outcomes. Essential Qualifications & Experience
· Expertise in coding (HTML, CSS)
· Tertiary qualified in Design or Digital Media (preferably at a postgraduate level)
· Teaching in a tertiary-level environment would be advantageous.
· A portfolio of work and relevant industry experience in Digital Media Design.
· The ability to relate to students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
· An ability to understand complex concepts and retell them in a manner that people find easy to understand.
· Genuine passion for design education and fostering creativity.
· The right to work and live in New Zealand.
