Job Description - Facility Technical Custodian

He angitūtanga: The opportunity


The aim of the Te Oro Music and Arts centre is to make a positive impact on the wider arts community and continue the high level of services offered to our communities and venue hire clients, building towards a strong and loyal audience following and a long-term reputation.


As a Technical Custodian, you will be responsible for assisting in the technical delivery of Sound and Visual services to events and bookings held at Te Oro. You will also be helping to ensure safe practice procedures and usage of the arts centre facilities by both users and staff and assisting with maintenance of equipment, building infrastructure and venue presentation.


This role is a 4 month fixed term role, 10 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays, including some flexibility for shows and bookings over a 7day period. This role is based in Te Oro Music and Arts Centre, Glen Innes.

  • Deliver excellent service to visitors, customers and audiences as well as internal and external stakeholders

  • Be aware of, and demonstrate the principles of Our Charter. This sets out the expectations for conduct at Auckland Council.

  • Create an aesthetic environment for the facility which is professional, safe, distinct and consistent with Council’s standards

  • Actively monitor equipment, health and safety and security issues and situations

  • Maintain a secure and appropriate materials inventory to support classes and programmed activities.

  • Develop and monitor health and safety procedures and practices ensuring all facility areas and operations comply with health and safety requirements.

He kōrero mōu: About you

To be successful, you will be an excellent communicator, team player, with customer service and organisation skills and the ability to take direction and work under pressure.


You will have some experience or knowledge of sound and/or lighting practices for stage and live events. This role does not require advanced technical expertise, but a good foundational understanding and the ability to operate sound and/or lighting systems during events is essential.


All applicants for this role should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.

Salary: Band D, we are looking to appoint the successful applicant at a salary of between $60,216 - $68,000 pro rata depending on experience.
