Job Description - Librarian Flatbush Library

An exciting fixed term opportunity is now available in the Howick Local Board for a Librarian Children & Youth based at Flat Bush Library in Ormiston Town Centre.


He angitūtanga: The opportunity 


This role is vital for connecting children, youth, and whānau with library services and programmes. You will be responsible for developing and delivering responsive and engaging programmes and events for tamariki and rangatahi. As a senior, this role has additional leadership responsibilities in supporting the Flat Bush Library team.


Flat Bush Library will be open seven days a week including some public holidays, so flexibility around working hours is required. This is a 1-year secondment/fixed term position until early April 2027 working 38 hours per week with a variable roster.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:



  • An ability to provide good leadership with strong communication skills

  • An aptitude for building relationships with young people and their whānau, schools, pre-schools, community stakeholders, and the wider council family

  • Skills with technology and the ability to support tamariki and rangatahi to successfully use information resources and devices

  • A willingness to design and deliver innovative, value-added programmes and events

  • Strong children and youth readers advisory skills

  • A library qualification, or bachelor’s degree in a related field

Band F, we expect to appoint the successful candidate at a salary of $76,000 - $90,000 dependant on skills & experience
