The Ashburn Hall Charitable Trust is needing to recruit another Trustee to replace a retiring Trustee.

The Trust is responsible for the governance of the Ashburn Clinic in Dunedin, established in 1882. The Clinic operates as a not-for-profit rehabilitation clinic and therapeutic community, providing a professional and supportive environment for diagnosis, treatment and recovery from mental illness and addictions, to patients from across New Zealand. Patients are a mix of those treated under contract with the Ministry of Health, ACC patients and those paying privately.

The Trust Board is looking for a new Trustee who would share the philosophy and values of the Board and organisation, amongst which are:

1. A humanistic and socially responsible understanding of healthcare delivery.


2. A vision of excellence in our unique treatment approach.


3. The importance of a supported and well-functioning staff group.


4. A capacity for positive, constructive interpersonal relationships.


5. An understanding that good financial management is required for other goals to be met.


6. Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement.

We are particularly looking in this instance for someone with a clinical background, who would understand clinical work, the health system and the Ashburn Clinic’s operational context. Other skills that would be an advantage are leadership, governance/board/director experience and skills, political and community networking, and financial understanding.
