Immigration New Zealand is the operational delivery arm of the immigration system. Our core functions are:

  • Ensuring that people crossing the border and staying in New Zealand are entitled to do so
  • Helping refugees to make New Zealand their home
  • Assessing visa applications for people that are looking to work, visit, study or settle in New Zealand
  • Playing our part in the global immigration system

One of your primary responsibilities will be to interpret immigration legislation and to make quality immigration decisions using your proven analytical, judgement, and well-developed decision-making abilities. Your assessments will result in sound decisions that make a positive impact and benefit our people and communities here in Aotearoa. As an Immigration Officer, you will be working in a high-volume environment. Experience advantageous to this role includes strong organisational skills and time-management; a strong customer background; and the ability to be decisive, sometimes in the absence of complete information. You will be joining an innovative and collegial team in our central Christchurch office. This can be a rapidly changing environment, with opportunities to develop your analytical and administration skills. Your strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish a positive and consultative working relationship with stakeholders will be one of the key successes to this role. Why work for us?   • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven expertise conveying concepts, and information clearly and concisely to any variable audience
  • Strong computer literacy and aptitude in MS Office applications and other software packages
  • Experience in an administration/processing environment
  • To be able to multi-task, problem solve and thrive under pressure
  • Experience working on high caseloads in a high-pressured situation
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new information as required
  • A strong moral compass, and be known to ‘act with integrity' in all you undertake
