We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.

About the role:

Reporting directly through to our Head of IT, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, down to earth, and driven Engineer to join our IT team on a permanent full-time basis in our newly built, vibrant, and collaborative Head Office in beautiful Port Chalmers. You will utilise your systems engineering experience to support the improvement of technology at Port Otago by solving user problems, identifying common trends, and establishing enduring solutions to fix the root causes.

What your day could look like:

  • Providing systems support, maintenance and monitoring tasks associated with our environment to ensure our technology remains current and secure.
  • Responding immediately to any incidents or alerts that are impacting our business operations or a potential cyber threat.
  • Getting involved in the challenge, implementation, and migration to Port Otago chosen products.
  • Delivering elements of some exciting upcoming IT projects, where you will be able to collaboratively challenge and improve solution designs, implementation plans, technical and user change management and communication.
  • Contributing to documentation for as built solutions, as well as training end users and IT team members as required.
  • Working closely to support and assist the Service Desk Lead in managing the support queues to agreed levels.

About you:

You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team who thrive working in a fast-paced and often reactive environment. You’ll be the type of person who has a fix-forward attitude, loves getting stuck in to solve problems in a practical way, and who is a master of juggling multiple priorities. But above all else you’ll have a positive attitude, resilience, and plenty of initiative.

Key to your success in this role includes:

  • Relevant qualifications/experience in IT support and engineering
  • Technical expertise across a range of Microsoft and operational technologies, together with a base knowledge of server infrastructure, networking, and modern desktop solutions
  • Proven record of troubleshooting issues to reveal the root cause and confident determination of remediation steps or escalation.
  • 6+ years’ experience as a system administrator with rich understanding of good practice
  • Appetite to explore and learn new technologies to solve business problems and create business efficiency.
  • A background in service desk or systems engineering, with technical understanding of authentication, hardware, software, database, server, applications, networks, and communication technologies.
  • Preparedness to work in an environment spanning both office and industrial areas of technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly form strong working relationships.
  • A self-starter who brings a proactive and flexible approach to their work.
  • Calm disposition with the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.

What’s in it for you?

In return, you can look forward to working for a successful company which prides itself on continually striving to improve performance; this enables our people to contribute in a way that makes a difference and for us to reward our people for their contributions.

You will also be entitled to comprehensive health insurance cov.er for you, your partner, and any dependent children (worth approx. $4k per annum), as well as a 7% employer superannuation contribution.  Contribution towards relocation costs to Dunedin are also on offer for our successful candidate. Not to mention the amazing views of the Otago Harbour!

Heads up:

  • This is typically a Monday to Friday position, but as the Port operates 24/7, occasionally some flexibility is required.
  • A full clean NZ Drivers licence is essential.
  • You must be able to pass Ministry of Justice, ACC checks and a medical which includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process.
  • Random drug and alcohol testing.
