Job Description - Junior Duty Chef

We are currently seeking a Junior Duty Chef to join our team based at University Hall. In this role you will: 

  • Maintain a healthy, clean catering environment with a focus on delivering nutritional, healthy and cost-effective meals of a high quality for residents, ensuring all dietary requirements are met.
  • Support the Head Chef in implementing Academic year and Summer Stays catering plans.
  • Support the team in food preparation and stock control.
  • Support the Head Chef in maintaining high kitchen operational standards.

You must have/be:

  • At least 2 years experience in a commercial kitchen or similar
  • A relevant qualification is preferred though not required
  • Experience developing menus that are cost-effective, nutritious, current and tasty
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask, show initiative and work well under pressure
  • Experience dealing with suppliers and the ordering processes
  • Experience in efficiently controlling stock levels
  • Honest, dependable, diligent, flexible and enthusiastic

This is a permanent position of 32 hours per week during university term time. Weekend work and the ability to work various shifts, including mornings, afternoons and evenings up to around 8pm is expected.

The UCSA

The University of Canterbury Students’ Association Incorporated (UCSA) is a not-for-profit organisation with charity status. Fourteen elected student representatives govern the UCSA with the support and guidance of external advisors via an Advisory Board. Over 250 full time, part time and casual staff report through to the Chief Executive. We offer many services to ensure that the university experience for students at UC is all that it can be.
