We are seeking a  Procurement Manager IT, Procurement Transformation and Excellence  to join our Strategic Procurement team within the Finance Division. This role is pivotal in shaping and optimising the University’s procurement processes, driving efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and technological innovation across IT spend and our procurement function.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a Procurement leader to make a lasting impact at the university by playing a leading role in the next evolution of our Procurement processes, systems and technology, whilst supporting our established and respected team to deliver the strategic goals of the institution including value delivery, sustainability and ethical practices.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend IT vendors and products that align with our business needs and goals.
  • Negotiate prices, contracts, and terms with vendors to achieve cost savings and optimise supply chain efficiencies.
  • Drive the design, development, and implementation of procurement excellence strategies, systems, processes, and tools.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional project teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment between IT and procurement.
  • Lead the administration, development, and maintenance of procurement-related documentation and performance measures.
  • Develop inventive and cost-effective procurement strategies.
  • Source and engage reliable suppliers and vendors.
  • Review existing contracts to ensure ongoing feasibility and alignment with organisational goals.

You will be responsible for a small Team of IT Procurement and improvement specialists.

Our Strategic Procurement team sits within OneFinance and promotes leading procurement practices to all University stakeholders and supports the University's strategic direction through effective management of commercial risk and mobilising third-party vendors/suppliers.

We focus on maximising value for money and minimising commercial risks while being an ethical and responsible member of the New Zealand community.

About you | He kōrero mōu

We are seeking an established and confident IT procurement specialist with the vision to help shape and guide the procurement function over the next ten-year strategic horizon, while integrating leading practices with our strategic and sustainability plans.

To succeed in the role, you will need a depth of knowledge and significant experience in ‘end to end’ IT Category Management, procurement operations, procurement systems and technology, business operations and stakeholder engagement/relationship management.

It’s important that you can demonstrate your experience of leading and implementing a procurement technology strategy and performance as an inspirational leader. You will also need to be able to reference your experience of connecting at a senior level with leaders as well as advocating and communicating services and value across a variety of levels in a large organisation.

  • Strategic Thinking - adept at developing inventive procurement strategies aligned with organisational goals. Continuous process improvement and innovation are key components of this role.
  • Analytical Skills - The ability to analyse data, trends, and market dynamics is vital. Able to make and substantiate informed decisions based on quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Communication and Negotiation Skills - Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities are necessary. Able to fluently interact with vendors, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Technology Proficiency - Understanding of procurement tools, technologies, and digital transformation is essential. Full familiarity with e-procurement systems, data analytics, and automation.
