The Chief Ombudsman works with his staff to help New Zealanders in their dealings with government agencies. The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. The Chief Ombudsman is independent and impartial, with the goal of fairness for all.
The Chief Ombudsman recognises the relevancy of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi and is committed to giving effect to Te Tiriti in his work.
Mō tō mātou tira – About the team
The Rōpū Māori Hononga Hapori (Māori and Community Engagement team) provides diverse community engagement and outreach, as well as guidance for Te Ao Māori practice within the Ombudsman's offices. The team is focussed on building outreach and engagement through a programme of work that will include a specific focus on Asian communities to meet the Chief Ombudsman's strategic intentions.
Mō te tūranga - About the role
This is a key influential role that will provide leadership, strategic and operational advice in relation to Asian community outreach and engagement. You will be developing and implementing strategy, policy and practices to lead engagement with these communities, and supporting other staff in their engagement needs. This is a fixed term role to June 2025.
Please note there will be significant travel expected.

Depending on skills and experience the salary is expected to be between $100,612 - $125,765.
