Veterinarian - VTS2 Live Animals
Role Type: Permanent, full-time
Location: MPI Centre Auckland | Auckland Airport
Salary: Range from $91,412 to $114,265,265 per annum plus additional benefits.
Starting salary will be dependent on skills and experience of the successful applicant. In addition to salary, we offer overtime, penal time and shift allowances. Kōreromō te tūranga - About the Role
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is Aotearoa New Zealand's largest employer of veterinarians. We have more than 300 vets working for us around the country and overseas.
Working with the Live Animals team, no two days are the same on this team as you will have lots of variety role, including the verification of live domestic and exotic animals which are travelling to/from New Zealand.
Key areas you will be responsible for include;

  • Verification of animal quarantine and zoo containment facilities
  • Inspection of imported live animals and their documentation
  • Verification of live animal and germplasm export requirements
  • Issuing of export certificates
  • Performing NZVA best practice audits
This role is based near Auckland Airport; however travel may also be required in order to support the regions involved in live animal work
The position involves participating in an afterhours roster covering pre-planned work and is shared between the veterinarians.
MPI will provide all required training for the role and encourages ongoing development and career progression. Mō te peka - About the Branch
The Live Animal team consists of nine frontline veterinarians and three administration support staff. They are well supported by the Team Leader and Team Manager in the Live Animals team who bring a wealth of knowledge within Verification Services.
Our veterinarians provide valuable technical expertise and are recognised as trusted advisers at MPI, and in the wider public service. They are an evidence-led community of impartial and objective professionals that decision-makers turn to for technical and non-technical advice.   • Veterinarian currently registered as practicing with the NZ Veterinary Council
  • Demonstrated experience working in a clinical role

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • A strong interest in growing and protecting New Zealand and enhancing New Zealand's reputation
  • Experience in persuading and influencing, teamwork, planning and organising

  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines
