Job Description - Consultant Haematologist and Research Fellow

Two roles available:

  1. Permanent Consultant Haematologist, and
  2. Two-year fixed-term Haematology Research Fellow

Making a difference - it's what you do. But what about what you need?

Like more space, and more to do on your days off - or less. In New Zealand, you've got nature at your fingertips, a team you can count on and a warm welcome. We've got it all covered at Health New Zealand.

As a Consultant Haematologist or Haematology Research Fellow, you’re already making a difference every day, in the lives of patients, their loved ones and the wider communities who benefit from your expertise. We’re looking to fill multiple roles nationwide and offering you the unique opportunity to make a difference, somewhere different.

You’ll provide the highest-quality medical care, surrounded by world-leading technology. Our multi-disciplinary teams work together to drive positive change to improve healthcare outcomes for our communities.

About the Consultant Haematologist and Research Fellow roles

As a consultant haematologist you will be providing a full diagnostic service and treatment for patients with haematological diseases in the Counties Manukau region.  You will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that patients receive optimal care.  There is a strong focus on research and quality improvement, as well as the training of junior medical and nursing staff.  Counties Manukau is home to New Zealand’s most diverse population, so there is plenty of opportunity to deal with complex and challenging clinical issues.

The Research Fellow position is a shared 50% research and 50% clinical role split between Health New Zealand Counties Manukau and Aotearoa Clinical Trials (ACTT).  The postholder will be employed by Health New Zealand Counties Manukau and based at Middlemore Hospital. ACTT is an internationally accredited clinical research site and in collaboration with the Counties Manukau Haematology Department, conducts phase Ib-III interventional clinical trials across the haematological malignancies. The Research Fellow position would be involved in a large range of clinical trials as a sub-investigator, while the successful candidate in the Consultant Haematologist role would have the opportunity to develop their own portfolio of clinical trials in an area of interest.

Both positions are full-time roles from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday. There is an additional on-call roster outside normal hours during the week, at weekends and on public holidays with an expected call frequency of 1:8.

Being kind, excellent, valuing everyone and doing that together as a team are our core values. We are a proudly a team that values diversity, as we know a diverse and inclusive workforce achieves the best outcomes for our patients and communities. If you share in these core values and bring them into every aspect of your patient care, we’d love to hear from you.
