Improving the holistic wellbeing of Pasifika Communities in New Zealand

K’aute Pasifika Trust works with local communities towards a shared vision of improved health and wellbeing. We’re a charitable trust based in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton providing health, education, employment and social services to Pasifika communities, and all other ethnicities who wish to access our services. We have a strong 25-year history of supporting people and their families to make meaningful changes that benefit their health and wellbeing, and helping create the kind of connected community we all want to be part of.

The role

As a GP, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of Pacific communities. This is a full-time role that involves delivering holistic, family-centered primary care in a culturally sensitive manner. Working within Pacific models of care, recognising that each individual is a vital part of a family unit that belongs to a wider community. You will be part of a collaborative approach as part of an extended care team that wraps support around families, addressing all aspects to wellbeing e.g. a warm dry home, access to higher education, employment, access to quality healthcare.

The ideal person

The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing primary care to our families, along with a proven ability to understand the needs of Pasifika people, kainga (family) and communities.

To be considered for this role, the following is a must:

  • Appropriate qualifications as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Knowledge, understanding and commitment to working with Pacific Island people and their cultures.
  • Pacific Island and Māori values and protocols ie. Te Tiriti O Waitangi
  • Understanding of the needs of Pacific Island people as they relate to social services and issues.
