To help support our vision, we are in seek of a Generation Controller to operate our Steam Plant at our Wairakei Geothermal Power Station in Taupo.

Job Description



Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role  

As a Generation Controller - Steamfield, you will manage the operation of our Steamfield plant in compliance with our operational guidelines and safety regulations, ensuring its efficiency while monitoring and enhancing its performance.

This Day role reports to one of our Operations Supervisors. You'll work in our Generation & Trading group and be part of a team of world class operators.

This role is broad but here are some of the key daily tasks;

  • Operate local and remote control steam field assets via DCS systems and respond to alarms / events.
  • Monitor plant performance, maintain plant efficiency, whilst identifying and anticipating events to prevent failures.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all industry safety rules, codes of practice and regulations whilst delivering HSE Performance and Safety from the System (SFTS).
  • Carry out operational routines and inspections, identify and report any defective plant and equipment.
  • Contribute to the performance of the team by assisting in other areas or sites as required, including identifying opportunities for improvement of systems and processes, and suggest advice and/or strategies to other staff to minimise risk.

We run a 24/7 business, so while this is a day work role some out of hours and overtime work may be required from time to time. 

Qualifications

You're a curious individual, always thinking about the 'why' and you're skilled when it comes to solving complex issues. How can we make things better is your mantra.

Training is provided for this position so we're open minded about the experience you bring. Whether you are an experienced plant operator, or you have an interest in taking on a trainee role to learn a new craft - we want to talk to you.

Ideally, you'll have worked in operations and maintenance in a power generation environment. A trade background or a specialist qualification such as Enchem 3 or 4 will certainly get our attention.

You'll be operating a number of different computer systems so you'll need to be tech savy. Experience with SAP Maintenance Computer programme and knowledge of Operating Steam System Plant will be a bonus.
