The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Graphic Designer who loves working with bold and exciting design? Do you enjoy working across a variety of mediums – including print, digital, social, and outdoor (physical)? As our in-house Graphic Designer working for the UCSA we’re offering you a space to grow through design variety.

About You

We are looking for a team member who is passionate about design. You will also enjoy working across teams with various projects on the go and be comfortable in a high-pace environment. If you have great organisational skills, excellent communication and digital skills we want you!

You will be someone who can juggle multiple priorities with ease and deliver high-quality work consistently and on time. You will also need to be a whiz at Adobe Creative Suite (bonus points if you have photography and video editing skills or have a keen interest in this area).

Due to the nature of the role and the organisation, an affinity for and understanding of students is important.

Important Skills

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. Digital Media, Fine Arts etc)
  • At least two years’ experience with graphic design;
  • Experience in creating and developing brands
  • Competent with industry standard digital media management;
  • Capable of producing audience-specific, targeted content
  • Has a particular empathy, sensitivity and appreciation for students and the diverse ethnic, socio-economic, genders of the student body, staff and clients
  • A good understanding of what it means to work in a bi-culturally competent environment, or the openness to learn and grow in this space

About UCSA

Our organisation is governed by an elected Student Executive, and we employ over 200 staff. Together, we dish up a range of student-focused services, including: advocacy and welfare, representation, subsidised dental and optometry, early learning centres, club support, events, and media.

Benefits of working for the UCSA

  • A creative, supportive, progressive working environment
  • Staff rates on University of Canterbury Recreation Centre memberships
  • Friday drinks and nibbles on the house
  • Epic wellbeing initiatives (e.g. subsidised massages)
  • Discounts at a range of bars, cafes and shops around the University of Canterbury campus
  • Free hire of Haere-roa venues (subject to availability)
  • Free flu vaccinations
  • Free, confidential counselling available via OCP
