Are you passionate about creating delicious culinary masterpieces?

Novotel New Plymouth Taranaki and Haukai Bistro & Bar are on the lookout for a vibrant and talented Junior Sous or Sous Chef to join our amazing kitchen team!

As a Junior Sous or Sous Chef you will work closely with our Senior Chefs to ensure the smooth operation of our kitchen and the delivery of exceptional dining experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on oversight of the kitchen operations (restaurant, meetings, events and conferencing) on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supervision and training of kitchen team members to ensure the highest quality of food preparation.
  • Meet and exceed customer and guest expectations, establishing the Food & Beverage operation as a consistent provider of quality and value-for-money cuisine.
  • Ensure that food preparation, presentation, and cooking techniques adhere are of the highest standard. Take corrective action when necessary to maintain these standards.
  • Strive for continual innovation in food offerings, ensuring a focus on quality and value for money. Present and serve food in the most appealing and complimentary manner.
  • Maintain the highest standard of hygiene throughout the kitchen brigade to comply with Health & Safety regulations and HACCP food preparation guidelines (including willingness to join the Work Health and Safety team)
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages learning and personal development, driving quality improvement.
  • Work closely with the Senior Chefs and Food and Beverage Manager to achieve food and beverage operational objectives.
  • Coordinate with other kitchen team members to meet the kitchen’s requirements effectively.
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by your Manager with a proactive and adaptable approach.
  • Monitor and control food costs, inventory, and wastage to ensure profitability.
  • Assist in the ordering and receiving of food and supplies.

Qualifications



Your professional journey and skill set should showcase:

  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on kitchen experience demonstrating your culinary expertise as a Chef de Partie, Junior Sous (preferred for Junior Sous Chef role), or Sous Chef (preferred for Sous Chef role).
  • A Certificate in Cookery, your education complements your practical experience, making you a well-rounded culinary expert (preferred).
  • Preferably, you’ve honed your skills in the dynamic setting of a large hotel or commercial kitchen, showcasing your ability to handle the heat in the bustling culinary environment.
  • Experience handling catering for up to 200 guests for conferencing, meetings and events
  • Collaborative team player, working seamlessly as an integral part of a culinary team and has excellent leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Flexibility: Your availability spans a 7-day roster, effortlessly managing both morning and evening shifts (including public holidays and 4:30 am starts)
  • Passion to deliver an outstanding culinary experience every time.
  • Your passion extends to an unwavering commitment to quality and presentation, setting a benchmark in every dish you create.
