Job Description - People and Growth Coordinator

Job Description

We have a new leadership role, heading the wellbeing, people, capability, and program areas of our business, in our friendly professional workplace.

To be successful in this role you will bring a genuine interest in growing our people; have an open, empathetic and approachable people-style; and a passion for implementing new ways of working or being that enhance our ability to be a world-class visitor experience.

This is a people-plus role, where you will also have the opportunity to take on projects, design or oversee programs, and bring new ideas and initiatives that enhance our working environment.

Our business has existing HR support, so this role offers more than a regular HR, people and capability role, with the opportunity to make it your own. For example, this role may suit someone with existing strong HR skills, who wants to expand beyond their present role into project and programme design – or someone with great people and program development skills who is keen to step into more of a leadership focus on human resource management.

Opportunities this role offers includes:

  • Taking the lead on business wellbeing projects or programmes, in areas such as sustainability, workflow design, operational efficiency, manuhiri safety or experience.
  • Holding a leadership and/or coordination role for internal business development projects or programmes, such as designing or commissioning new projects, equipment, identifying suppliers or working with kaimahi, contractors or others on development and implementation.
  • Overseeing implementation of new workflow or operational programmes, becoming the ‘subject matter expert’, to support the smooth and sustainable integration of team or organisation-wide change.
  • Building trusting and strong relationships across the organisation, with managers, team leaders, kaimahi, suppliers, contractors, collaborators, and others who interact with our team or operations.
  • Overseeing, or directly managing, onboarding for kaimahi, ensuring they have a positive experience throughout their introduction to the organisation, and are equipped with the knowledge needed to achieve in their roles and lives.
  • Monitoring compliance obligations, including for kaimahi health and safety, ensuring managers, team leaders and general kaimahi are informed, up-to-date and meeting required standards.
  • Identifying, designing, commissioning or delivering training and personal development opportunities, to meet individual, team, and business needs.
  • Being a first-point-of-contact for human resources pātai, supporting managers, team leaders and kaimahi, to ensure familiarity with HR protocols, expectations, management software, or other tools.

At Whakarewarewa - The Living Māori Village, we pride ourselves on our fun, friendly and welcoming workplace. We aim to grow our people to be the best they can be, champion and support wellbeing, and encourage our people to reach their full potential. We work within te ao Māori frameworks.
