Port of Tauranga plays a crucial role in New Zealand’s logistics network. We operate a business model which delivers a highly effective service to our import and export customers in the national supply chain.

Our investment in regional feeder ports, inland freight hubs, cargo handling expertise and logistics services have established us as a service of choice as New Zealand’s largest port and international freight gateway.

The Port’s facilities in Tauranga include the country’s largest and fastest-growing container terminal, extensive bulk cargo wharves and storage facilities, and bunker berths. We pride ourselves on great people doing great work, and we look after our people with the highest commitment to healthy and safe work practices.

The dynamic nature of our industry demands a risk-aware culture throughout the Port. As Risk Specialist, you would be responsible for designing, implementing and managing the Port’s risk management strategies.

This is a new position, reporting directly to the General Manager Corporate Services.

The role would suit a professional with proven enterprise risk management experience who enjoys working collaboratively within a small team.

The primary objective of this role is to partner with the GM Corporate Services to deliver the Port’s fit for purpose quality, risk, and assurance frameworks, policies, and supporting structures. This will include championing best practice to ensure compliance with the ISO standard.

Our expectation is that you will:

· Facilitate the identification, analysis and monitoring of enterprise-level risks and reporting of these and emerging risks to the Senior Management Team and Board.

· Lead the Port’s Emergency Response and Business Continuity Planning.

· Drive the changes needed to create an organisational culture that recognises and embraces quality, risk and improvement as critical to success.

· Establish, build and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.

· Lead from the front in setting examples of best practice business partnership, collaboration and communication.

· Prepare accurate and timely reports.

This is a full-time position with the option to work at both our Mount and Tauranga sites, and from home occasionally.

To be successful in your application, you will have:

· A proven background in Enterprise Risk Management.

· A proven ability to work collaboratively and across organisational boundaries.

· A passion for continuous improvement and learning.

· Knowledge and experience in quality improvement policy and processes, including the ISO accreditation programme.

· Experience in effectively presenting to a range of audiences.

· The ability to facilitate the resolution of complex problems, driving the changes needed to create an organisational culture that recognises and embraces quality, risk and improvement as critical to success.

· Excellent relationship management skills – able to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the Ministry, as well as with key stakeholders.

· Excellent communication and leadership skills.

· Strong decision-making skills.

The successful candidate will be asked to demonstrate their experience to meet these criteria.

Port of Tauranga is a drug and alcohol-free workplace. The successful applicant will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and background checks. Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand is also required.
