About the role  

We're looking for an inspirational, experienced people manager who can lead, inspire and manage a team of support staff in a range of services, who deliver quality supports to the people we work for. Your ability to listen, connect, collaborate, communicate and influence will be critical. You will need to display attributes of tolerance, empathy, trustworthiness, confidence and kindness.  

In successfully leading the teams, the manager will effectively manage workload and resourcing requirements, work within budgets, develop strong connections and networks within the sector, assess and manage risk proactively, and be able to undertake complex and/or sensitive tasks. 

A great attitude, passion and empathy with resilience and tenacity to work in such a dynamic environment, are vital to ensuring success as a Service Manager. You will need a high level of interpersonal and negotiation skills, combined with a coaching and consultative approach to leadership. You will lead the professional growth of teams of support staff therefore a strong respect for others coupled with an open and engaging attitude is important. 

Essential requirements  

  • Have strong staff management and people leadership experience 
  • Has understanding and commitment to the guiding principles of enabling good lives embedded in their approach
  • Demonstrated experience of developing positive support strategies for people with communication, behavioural and/or medical needs 
  • Understanding and empathy for people with different abilities
  • Fantastic communicator with a great attitude and able to motivate people 
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to use web based systems 
  • The ability to follow clear directions, organise priorities, work under pressure, manage their own workload and meet deadlines 
  • Show success in achieving results, outcomes and making improvements 
  • Understanding and upholding the Articles and Principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and awareness of New Zealand as a multi-cultural society 
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent 
  • Hold a full, clean NZ driver's licence 
  • Be able to satisfactorily pass Police checks 

Highly Desirable requirements  

  • Professional experience within a registered health background with APC  (i.e. Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing)  
  • Experience within the disability sector or lived disability
