Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Starship Children’s Health (Auckland), the leading provider of child health care in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and the South Pacific, has an exciting opportunity for three fixed-term, full-time positions as Fellows in Children’s Emergency Department for up to 12 months commencing in January 2025.
You will provide leadership in the Children’s Emergency Department clinically and non-clinically to ensure that all children we care for receive excellent and equitable care. To ensure that we provide excellent and equitable care you will be involved in a variety of non-clinical areas, such as supervision of junior staff, medical and nursing education, quality improvement and research. In Starship Hospital you will utilise your expertise by your involvement in, clinical guideline and pathway development, medical education, multi-disciplinary team training, and contributing to organisational-wide systems such as mass casualty preparedness and pandemic responses. To improve the care of all acutely unwell and injured children in New Zealand you will promote Paediatric Emergency Medicine both regionally and at a National level.
The Starship Children’s Emergency Department is the only dedicated Emergency Department in New Zealand designed to focus exclusively on the needs of children. The Children’s Emergency Department (CED) is the regional paediatric advanced trauma centre and we specialise in meeting the needs of acutely ill or injured children and young people ranging from birth to 15 years of age. We are supported by the tertiary-level medical, surgical, radiology and intensive care services that are provided within Starship Children’s Hospital. CED works within a multidisciplinary framework that includes Māori support workers, Pacific Island support workers, play specialists, social workers and clerical staff who work closely with the nursing and medical teams.

To be successful, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and be registered, or eligible for such registration (General Registration). Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand. Other requirements for the role include:
· Advanced trainee in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency Medicine
· Previous Registrar level clinical experience in Paediatrics and/or Emergency Medicine, preferably in a tertiary hospital setting.
· Preferably, final 1-2 years of advanced training in the PEM speciality training program
